Ronin,
Thanks for sharing your viewpoint. We definitely don't want to come across as just shutting down every idea that is proposed. I went back through this thread to look for examples of times when we've rebutted/refused people's suggestions, and I apologize if I'm missing something, but I can't find much of anything. Maybe you're referring to a different thread.
Yes, some of the ideas are discarded, but the decisions are not hasty ones. Most of the time, those issues have already been discussed/debated at length within the KC group, and deemed to be impractical/too labor intensive/etc. Yes, some people volunteer to help out, but there needs to be a reasonable cap on how many people are needed to run something like this. If it takes 8 KC members, a brawl master, a guild master, a map overseer, plus 4 or 5 other positions to run LoR, then it is probably getting too complicated. We want to build this project to be sustainable. Even with 8 people helping with the KC, I'm the only original member. Most people in an administrative role get burned out because it really is a lot more work than you think (just ask Sir Caelan Munro or Schmidt). Even just keeping a thread updated is boring, thankless work. Having a "chore" to do every time you log on takes the fun out of things pretty quickly, even if it only takes 15-20 minutes a couple times a month, so we are trying to keep the list of chores to a minimum.
With regard to claiming territory / adding cities, I can assure you that it has absolutely zero to do with some prideful thing about us not wanting to "change what we've created". From the beginning, all the way back to the early CC days, we said that this should be a MOC-based game, not a map-making game. The cities that are currently in place (and really the whole map in general) are just tools / references to help people connect their stories together.
Now, I agree that there probably is room for a few more towns, especially if we had more detailed faction maps. Too many towns on the global overview will really clutter it up though. Everyone who has ever been on the KC has agreed to that.
Probably a better way to keep a record of the towns/cities that people wish to add would be to build a thread that is a database for people to add info to. This way, there would be a record of all of the towns without taking up space on the map.
Something like:
TOWNS OF GARHEIM
City Name: Townville
Location: Three days' ride, west of Mikithdar
City Type: Stone Walled City (other example options - farming village, fortified castle, palisade walled town, etc)
City Size: Large (small/medium/large - avoid exact population numbers)
Founding Member: Ronin Dragonslayer
Characteristics: Short description of Townville, its architecture style, main marketable goods, presence of garrison, etc.)
If you wanted to be in charge of such a list, I think we would be happy to let you do that, though I'd have to confirm with the KC. Maybe a representative of each faction could be in charge of managing their section of the list.
How does that sound?
Thanks for your honest feedback.
