Brinklink is great, but I remember when I came out of the darkness (not too long ago), I was pretty lost and overwhelmed at all the new pieces. I would suggest getting some sets which have the feel of what you want to build. Bricklink is great once you have found yourself again and know exactly what you want. Just my opinion.

A valid point, while not popular from what I have read the Castle(2013) line has a few cheap sets easily available on eBay I would not mind buying. Might be good to brush up on a few of the modern building techniques etc.

if you are wanting to learn great building techniques, download the instructions for An Unexpected Gathering - 79003. build it with parts you already own, it teaches some amazing building skills to bulk up your castle supplies, the smallest 2013 castle set is best bang for buck for minifigures. plus you get a dog!

I definitely suggest buying sets for a while and then fill in the gaps with BrickLink. You won't know what to buy if you just start out on BL, and you'll end up with large limitations in your collection because there are a lot of great parts that you would never think to buy, but that might come in a set.
Pirates is a pretty decent parts theme right now, if you can't find castle sets. You can always sell the figs on eBay or BL to offset some of the set cost.

Deffinitly best advice is to start with sets untill you know what you want to build thaen once you have a good stock you can fill in gaps with bricklink. The 2013 castle sets are an okay place to start, but I would also keep an eye out for LOTR and Hobbit sets on sale if you can find them. I also agree the current pirates sets are great parts sets, however they are a bit pricy. But if you get them on sale all the better. Good hunting

Additionally, if you're still open to advice, I would go on Flickr and study the work of other castle builders to see what types of parts they use lots of, then use that info to make your selections. Good places to looks would be the Flickr streams of various LoR builders, many of which have links in their sigs, the numerous castle-related groups on Flickr, and the "Castle" tag on blogs like Brothers-Brick, Bricknerd, etc.

I know I was joking. I'd like to say I was part of it since I was at brickfair, but I wasn't. I think it was in the past, but I think it did happen. Again, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Lord Silver and HalfgingerI've moved your posts out of the Loreos thread into here where they are more suited. I assume this is what you mean? I agree this is a bit confusing. Basically it is not lore. As in it has not happened (yet). I believe, and the collaborators may correct me if I am wrong, that the KC decided that it was more to promote LoR and while it may represent something that happens in the future, it has not happened yet. I'll try and get the Storyline summary up-to-date to make things clearer for new members! Loving your enthusiasm, please continue to fire questions at us!
