I like pyro's idea, but on a smaller scale. Something like 5 minifigs with full kits, each in a little bag. Each recipient is allowed to swap no more than 3 fig packets with their own offerings, though you can put in more than you take out, if desired.
This makes it a jambalaya/fig swap hybrid. You get to exchange whole figs, not just fig parts. But you also have the element of choosing what you take vs. what you give.

Personaly I like both ways. I will say to be honest I would like to pair up however this is Merlins Beard and not CC, so I think we need to be unique. I would say I like the thought of 5 full kits, to start with the oppertunity of swaping out a max of three kits.
I do want to be clear though. Would a kit be considered like a Lego series minifig consisting of legs, torso, head, hat or hair, and some sort of accesory, i.e. sowrd, armor, sheild etc. Or do we want to do something like the classic polybag/mini fig box. Where you had mini fig and a small build, like a cart, or small weapons rack, etc?
Just curious

I think former rather than the latter as that would get big on shipping...n

Former and yes, medieval themed.
I think something even a little more than what typically comes in a CMF packet would be good. Like sword, shield, armor, cape, helm, hair, for example

i view a minifig as the following pieces Legs Torso Head and then three or four of the following in any amount that makes sense Weapon(s) Helm/Headcover Shield Cape Accessory (food piece, jewel, frog, book, ect) as i mentioned before, it does not really matter either way to me what the minifig swap is, you guys can vote and decide, if i am paired or need to start a jumba i am good either way.

Give me a few days to recover from BrickCon and I'll start putting something together.

I love minifigs. I would be game, if we did this like a fig swap- not really up for a jambalaya style. I think it'd be a bit less fun that way.

I agree with Lord Mercat, I would prefer it to be a swap instead of a jambalaya
