ANNOUNCING LENFALD LC XV: 1st Annual Archery Contest!!!HEAR YE HEAR YE!!!!PROCLAMATION from High Lord Triphian:“I am right annoyed at the conflagration this weekend last, between a large group of inebriated Aithellon Rangers and an even larger group of sauced Lenfel Scout Snipers, the end result of which was a grand total of 11 broken ribs, 10 broken noses, 5 broken arms, 4 busted skulls, 1 broken leg, 27 black eyes and 1 thoroughly ruined establishment, the Sure-Shot Tavern. The ‘disagreement’ which started this brutish brawl was over “who the best shot in all of Roawia is”. Clearly it must be a Lenfel, but after this universal truth there must follow much disagreement from such a question.Upon suggestion from Duke Cartney of Durrough, I have decided to call the First Annual Archery Contest of All Great Lenfald, to decide this very issue on a yearly basis, in order to save skulls, noses, eyes and other members for the more-important work of destroying Great Lenfald’s enemies, the list of which is far too long to write here.Said contest will occur the third week of September every year, and will take place wherever there be a neutral-minded bailiff present to judge the contestants. Duke Cartney has volunteered the esteemed Captain Tavish to draw up the rules and scoring (whereby Tavish cannot compete, as he must stay neutral, of course). Tallies will be sent to the High Lord, who will declare the winner. The winning shooter will receive 100 Draken, and a title, Champion Shot. Crowds and merriment are greatly encouraged, but archers must note that no quarter will be given in the contest for those too tanked to shoot. All Lenfels who can draw a bow are greatly encouraged to participate. Good shooting be with you!
P.S. And stop busting up my taverns.”~ Lord Triphian SO: this is a new type of LC for Lenfald, somewhat mirroring Garheim’s Annual Fishing Contest, except Lenfel style. It will NOT take you long to do this one at all so I am hoping for maximum participation. It is mostly a dice-game (but for fairness I will use the Random Number generator here), but you can build as well if you like. This contest runs from Saturday 13 September until Friday 26 September 11:59 pm EST. The particulars: - You should use your player character or an NPC if your character is not a “shooter”. You are only allowed 1 character here in this contest.
- Take a picture of your character shooting or preparing to shoot, setting optional (see below).
- You get 8 total character skill points to spread across 4 skillsets, with the range allowed in each skill set 1 - 4 (see Tom Flannery example below).
- Determine where your character is at the time. Really this can be done anywhere there is a range and a bailiff to record the events, so everyone should be able to participate wherever they are, save for those in the wilderness. You can use an NPC if this is the case for your main character's current location.
- Post your picture here in the main Lenfald thread, along with a few sentences about who he is and why he is competing; include the location of the shoot. Also, show how you have your 8 points spread amongst the 4 skills.
Done and done; you are then entered in LC XV.
The contest consists of four separate events with 3 shots at each (represented by the random number generator, 1-6 possible; I will do all the official rolling, which is why I cannot compete): - Bullseye: A small ringed target shot from 100 yards out. The required skillset is Accuracy
- Long Shot: A medium sized ringed target shot from 300 yards out. The required skills are Draw strength + Accuracy
- Dodger: A man-shaped swinging target to be picked off from 50 yards. The required skills are Leading the target + Accuracy
- Miracle Shot: Either a shot at 200 yards fully exposed to the maximum crosswind present, or in the event of calm winds shot from standing on top of an upended bucket. Double tally points for this one. The required skills are Gauging the wind (minus the actual Wind Factor at the time) + Leading the target
Wind factor (roll of 6-sided dice): 1-2 = no wind = standing on a bucket = -1 3-4 = mild crosswind -0 5 = moderate crosswind -1 6 = heavy crosswind -2 All players at the same location will have the same crosswinds. So for instance, all those Lenfels present at Maldrake’s Fortress (the time frame for this 1st contest is after the assault is over) will have the same wind. From what I know then, Sir Caelan, Sir Haymar, and Lord Mercat would have the same crosswinds. Here is an example of an entry:[insert picture here] Tom Flannery. Flannery was a logger before the War of Roawian Secession whose reputation with a bow was as fearsome as with an axe. He was recruited by Sir Caelan Munro to be a Lenfel Scout Sniper. Now an accomplished sniper with three campaigns under his belt, he’s looking to impress the daughter of a lesser knight of Durrough, so that is where he is competing. Unfortunately for Tom, she’s hard to please… His breakdown of skill points: 4 Accuracy 1 Draw strength 2 Leading the target 1 Gauging the wind8 points total Procedure: For the game, I will roll for him on 27 September. - On the day of the competition, Flannery’s 3 shots for “Bullseye” were 1, 3, 4; he takes the 4 roll: 4 x 4 (Accuracy skill) = 16 points earned - For “Longshot”, his shots were 2, 4, 5 and he takes the 5: 5 x 5 (+1 for Draw strength + 4 Accuracy) = 25 points - For “Dodger” his shots were 6, 3, 4 so he takes the 6: 6 x 6 (+2 for Leading the target + 4 Accuracy) = 36 points - For “Miracle Shot”, the winds were rated at heavy - 2. His shots were 4, 3, 1 and he takes the 4: 4 x 1 (+1 for Gauging the wind - 2 for Wind Factor + 2 for his Leading the target skill) = 4 but this shot is double points, so 8 points is his score here for this event. So Tom’s final Competition Score is 16+25+36+8 = 85. Not bad; perhaps he’ll have a “shot” at that girl after all!! On 27 September I will roll for everybody entered into the competition and then post the results, hopefully with some amusing stories. HINT: choose your 8 points carefully. Whoever gets the lowest points will publicly get the “Shot Himself in The Foot” award! What you get personally: Entry is 2 personal points to your total Build (optional): If you choose to do a setting for your character, an 8x8 vignette gets 1 more personal point; a 16x16 gets 2 points and is max points you can get here for a build Winner: 2 additional points + the permanent title, 1st Annual Shootout - Champion ShotRunner-Up: 1 additional personal point So, happy shooting everyone! If this proves popular, I might have another LC like it six months from now, focussing on the skill of Hunting.

With Drogan Vykor out hunting in the High Wold, along with all of his most skilled marksmen, the people of Vykor must choose one from among them to represent them at the First Annual Archery Contest. That honor has fallen to Herpfred Derpson. Herpfred Derpson Herpfred is, frankly, an imbecile. He spends most of his time drinking, falling asleep in unfortunate places, and unsuccessfully counting to four. He has never shot a bow before, but he did manage to accidentally swallow a bow string on several occasions. Nevertheless, he is quite proud to be part of this first ever challenge. Here's my entry for LC XV:The defence of Kråkereir had been brutal but swift. The reinforced garrison and savage Lenfel attack had forced Lord Hildgard to pull his forces back from the brink, boiling oil quite literally hot on their tails. Sithric and the rest of the Lenfels had pursued them back to the forrested border between their homeland and the frozen north, but there their prey seemed to simply vanish. They split up, eager to find any sign of their quarry. Soon enough, Sithric found himself at the foot of an abandoned tower. The tower once guarded the border between Lenfald and Garheim but its garrison had long since fled since the arrival of the Queen's troops, leaving only half eaten food and some soiled remains. The door swung off its hinges. He climbed to the viewing platform and looked out. The tower had once been well cited but trees now obscured much of the view. A flicker of movement caught his eye - a patch of red and black darting between fallen tree trunks. Another, close by, told him he was not alone. Slowly, he plucked an arrow from his quiver and drew his bow... Sithric's shooting skills:4 Accuracy 1 Draw strength 2 Leading the target 1 Gauging the wind8 points total ...so the same as the example but I felt that this breakdown is probably representative of an 'average' Lenfald archer How this event unfolds much depends on his shot - a score of >80 and he'll hit his target. A score of less... This was also built in response to Mark's story, saying that Lenfald towers are crude. Well, that may be true, but a decent shot will fell any enemy, no matter how much wall they hide behind Thanks for viewing! EDIT: Sithric is at Falkenborg!

Wow, great contest! Though the rules seem even more complex than the Garheim Fishing Tournament! Good luck to all the contestants.

and it's my birthday Well, happy birthday! And congrats to the winners; there were some excellent builds, but you guys churned out some sweet work. I'm also submitting my first September free build, Hunting the Beast: Hunting the Beast by Snazzerton, on Flickr Winter was still months away, but Vykor needed to shore up its food stores and game was more scarce than it should have been. Reports had come in from hunters and rangers of game being found, mauled by some creature. That, in itself, wasn’t cause for alarm; bears, wolves, and other predators roamed the High Wold and occasionally someone would stumble upon the remains of their prey, but this… carcasses torn apart, often mangled beyond recognition, great elk being taken down in numbers, all pointed to something beyond common forest beasts. Drogan set out with a party of his best rangers, led by his master tracker Dustin Bowles, to seek out some answers to this mystery. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It had taken several days of long searching until Dustin discovered the tracks. The party followed him deeper into the Wold, wondering what they would find. Drogan was at home in these woods, but he still felt the subtle pangs of fear clutching inside his chest. Then he noticed Dustin had stopped and was kneeling down for a closer look at something. Bones. Judging by the size, they had found what they were looking for. Dustin turned and looked up at him, words forming on his lips. And then it came. "I feel its eyes upon me..." Hunting the Beast Close-up by Snazzerton, on Flickr
