Exotic Market

After being abandoned and left to die in the harsh Loresii desert by his dastardly guide Kursuff, the press of people in the bustling market of the city was a welcome experience.* Thankfully after stumbling into the oasis whose sweet water had saved his life, Davos was able to join a passing caravan which after several weeks travel, had arrived in the city of Loresi Ultra. His hair and beard unkept he had left the caravan and was headed to the docks to try and find transport north. He had progressed into a market situated along the outer wall of the city. It was interesting to note how the discovery of the western isles had changed the economies of Roawia. Evident in several market stalls was evidence of the new world. Tropical fruit such as Bananas and pineapples sat alongside more traditional fare such as bread and fish. These were clearly the cities ‘Foreign’ markets, as the common speech of the vendors was tainted with the accents of Garheim, and more pleasingly to his ears, Lenfald. It was these thoughts that were apparently ended of when a booming voice with a Lenfal accent cut through them. Looking up from his revere Davos took in the green blue tribal tartans and long dropping moustache of his good friend, Collum.
“Nice of you to finally show up, trying to ape my luxurious facial hair I see” boomed Collum. Rubbing his matted beard Davos replied “It’s a long story my friend, what brings you this far south?”
After exchanging more pleasantries and more than a few camel jokes, Collum explained to Davos that he had been dispatched by the Duke of Elvia to find Davos and to order him on a new mission. It appeared the Duke, not to be outdone by other notable men of Lenfald, had commissioned a warship and ordered an expedition to the very Western Isles that had just occupied Davos’ thoughts. “Elvia is land-locked” commented Davos, just what kind of leaky tub has his Lordship provided for us to conduct this voyage of discovery?” joked Davos.
“Not an old tub,” remarked Collum. “Brand new and constructed by a shipyard in Isil Oro, some fancy new design – the Duke brought in a shipwright from Ainesford, calls his design a Xebec – whatever the hell that means”. Davos groaned. Whilst he shared the Duke’s passion for new ideas and ways of thinking, he’d much prefer to go to sea in a tried and trusted design. “Very well, let’s see this fancy new ship then” he replied. With that the two men proceeded to the docks.

The Lady Jacqueline
Size: Unrestricted
Category: Exploration
Several weeks at sea aboard the Lady Jacqueline had changed Davos’ view on the experimental ship. She was sleek and fast and highly manoeuvrable, and required only the slightest puff of breeze to move. After re-provisioning at Port Emerald, and receiving orders from the Colonial Governor, the Lady Jacqueline had set out again to patrol along the western shores of New Lenfald. The barely tapped wealth of the Isles was calling to all of Roawia and the fledging colony needed a strong presence to safeguard it for Lenfald. Although the great Loresii and Garheim fleets had floundered for unknown reasons, individual ships from both nations had been reported in the waters, together with pirates or outlaws out to exploit the new world for their own means. Rumour had it that the Loresii fleet had been destroyed by a great sea serpent and these rumours were said to be causing fear throughout the mainland. Personally Davos feared no sea monster, in his mind it was far more likely the arrogant and over-confident Loresii admiral was probably dead drunk, and had run his fleet aground. Rather than admit his shame, a story had probably been concocted about a nonsensical sea monster. Atypical for a Lenfal, Davos both like and admired the average Loresii, and much of Loreos itself. He did however, share the majority of his countrymen’s stereotypical view of their nobility.
A Spicy Discovery
Size: Bignette

After a week at sea patrolling the largely unexplored western coast of New Lenfald, Davos led a small shore party in search of fresh water and food. Having discarded his heavy armour as unsuitable in the tropical conditions, Davos led the party up a creek bed. At one point the banks were filled with small bushes bearing hundreds of long, tapered fruit. The fruit ranged in colour from greens, yellow, orange and red. One of the ships crew volunteered to try some of this new fruit. Carefully picking a red one, the crewman proceeded to bite into the fruit. Almost immediately he started choking, spitting out the fruit. His face went red and he began to sweat profusely. “It burns, oh it burns!” cried the unfortunate seaman. "Quick, get him some water" someone cried. "Wait you fools" At this point, Jorge, the expeditions cook came running to the scene. "Give him hard tack or bread" he instructed. "hmmm burns, pepper also can burn, maybe if we dried it like pepper, grind it up and add it in small amounts it can be used as a spice.... or maybe make a paste and add..." Jorge, ignoring the still whimpering seamen, began to gather specimens, his head awash with the possibilities of a new spice to flavour his creations. Jorge, who had a strange sense of humour, started giggling to himself. "What is it?" asked Davos.
"Oh just thinking for a new name for my new spice," chuckled Jorge. "I shall name it 'Chilli'"
"I don't get it" replied Davos
"Well, apparently it burns, and having tasted the smallest amount it is far hotter in taste than pepper, therefore I will name it Chilli, because it is so hot I can give it a cold name" Jorge kept chuckling at his own joke. Shaking his head Davos still didn't really understand, however this could be another great discovery for Lenfald, one thing he did understand was that the possibilities were endless.
