Part 1 -Remote Monastery somewhere in Garheim-
"Sir you wanted to see us?" The old commander looked up from his documents. "Raziel, Kain good you've both been summoned." Raziel looked displeased. "Sir with all due respect, he's just a greenhorn, he can't possibl..." "That is enough Raziel" the commander interrupted, however Raziel slammed his fist on the table "But Sir..." exasperated the commander once again interrupted "I SAID THAT IS ENOUGH! Now then, you've both been dispatched to our excavation site in the Lorean Desert, you will leave immediately."
"Can you give any more details concerning our mission Sir?" Kain asked. The commander frowned as he contemplated what to tell them. "The Chaplain leading the excavation has requested immediate reinforcements as the current Paladins present at the site are incapable of suppressing the undead, now leave and make haste!"
Part 2 -Lorean Desert, Unknown Excavation Site-
"We've been walking through these caves for hours." Kain complained. Raziel was in a foul mood, no doubt being stuck with the rookie had something to do with it. He scoffed; "It's been 30 minutes at most." Kain disregarded the comment and continued his complaining; "and what about the camp outside, it's completely abandoned this doesn't feel right." Raziel turned around, his face showing a faint hint of worry; "You're right it is odd but if this map, we found at the campsite, is right we're coming up on the Crypt soon."
They entered through a carved out archway, to their left was rock surface and to their right was a dark void, most likely a large cavern. Before them descending steps were carved out. Kain looked over the railing but with a crackle what was left of it came loose. *Phew* "That was close, almost fell down, wonder how deep it is." Kain spoke his thoughts out loud, Raziel began to make the descent. Suddenly a disturbing laughing echoed through the cavern, an inhuman kind of cackling filled both the Veteran as well as the Rookie with dread... "n-n-no, it c-c-can't be..." Kain had never heard Raziel stutter before. Somehow Raziel managed to move forward but then tripped, his torch went out and Kain couldn't see him anymore... a moment of silence and then... a disgusting cracking noise of shattering armor and smashed bone and flesh... a shadow flew at Kain from the darkness and then he felt as if run over by a horse, before losing conscience Kain vaguely heard a disturbing voice "...this one still breathes, good bring them both...".
Part 3 -Unknown Location-
Kain occasionally gained consciousness, was he still in the ancient tomb? Someone was dragging him along. The pain in his chest was unbearable, as if all his ribs were broken and he could barely breath, yet it seemed as if his chest was bandaged. Still, the way he felt and the fatal blow he suffered he just knew he'd be dead soon enough.
When Kain gained consciousness again he was surprised to find himself still alive, an elderly man loomed over him, he felt somehow greatly disturbed by the mans presence. Kain tried to speak but couldn't, the man ignored him as he spoke to what can only be described as the skull of a monster, an eldritch thing from the realm of nightmares. Due to the pain Kain couldn't quite make out what the man was saying, or perhaps he even spoke in a different language. Only four words, what appeared to be names, he could make out due to them being repeatedly mentioned. Nadine Aylith and Abdul Alhazred. Everything faded away again.
Sometimes Kain found himself in a prison cell, he couldn't remember what that man did to him, only pain... so much pain. He began to vomit out all kind of strange substances, god's bones what was happening to him!?
Eventually a chance appeared, only half awake, aware, he fled... he started running and didn't stop. He managed to get outside and barely even noticed he was no longer in the Lorean Desert, he just kept on running.
