Finally, the adventurers had reached the last bastion of Korsven guard. The keep was not much to look at; it had suffered numerous blows from siege weapons and magic. As they entered the keep, they found themselves immediately splitting up to prepare for the counter attack.
Marco departed for the armory. During the last skirmish, he was unable to retrieve his sword after shoving the knight, who was impaled by it, off of a cliff. Walking into the armory, he saw weapons of all kinds: axes, halberds, shortswords, longswords, and much more. "Take your pick, sir!" The quartermaster stated as he looked over the barbarian. He began to try out different weapons, but they did not give the same feel as his greatsword. "Do you have something more fierce than these weapons? They aren't the greatest." Marco asked as he returned an axe to its stand. "Wait one moment, I have just the weapon in mind." The knight remarked. Marco waited for a couple of minutes, before the quartermaster returned, barely holding onto a large sword. "Heh, now this is what I call a weapon!" Marco yelled as took the giant blade. In his hands, it felt as though it were made of paper.
Meanwhile, Rolf was busy learning about the plan for the counter attack. "Rolf, good to see you brought reinforcements. I was thinking you weren't going to make it in time." The mage reached into a small pouch on his waste and pulled out a rather large magestone, "Well things weren't as easy as I had hoped, but nevertheless we're here to assist." The commander smirked then pointed to a marked map, "This is the work of Necros. He has raised a spire in the mountains, where he prepares for his final push. We believe he is going to unleash his monstrosity." Rolf tossed the stone up and caught it, "You speak of his Iron Golem. The very same creation that set the Drow free. Well with any luck, I can at least use this stone to cripple it, long enough for it to be stopped." The two men leaned over and examined the map more closely. It was going to take a good plan to get them close enough to use it.
While, Marco and Rolf were preparing for the next step of the quest, Althenia found herself preparing the young boy that they had found for battle. He was very much inexperienced with a blade, but he had the heart of a warrior. She admired that, and sought to teach him, should the moment arise to fight. Althenia began by teaching him how to hold the blade properly then added some simply strikes and defensive techniques. If the battle ever came inside the keep, he might as well be able to fight and die honorably. "Are you all going to save us?" He asked as they finished their second sparring session. She gazed over the city; fire, smoke, and destruction dominated the landscape. The situation was grim, and the odds were stacked against them.
"Your home will not fall." She replied.
He asked her nothing more. That was all he needed to hear.
