The Anvil by MasterMinifig, on Flickr
It was a perfect ambush. My Lenfel army stormed from the trees and took the outlaws completely by surprise. But the outlaws didn't scatter; they immediately fought back. Then came a game changer. The outlaws were being led by a mage/wizard fellow, and he started to blast my troops from the top of a tree.
Miri ran over to me. "There are too many! And that guy up there is really annoying."
I looked around and started to call a retreat, but I was cut off by a horn. A very familiar horn, which I recognized it at once. Loreesi!
Suddenly, the battlefield was flooded with Loreesi. But not just any Loreesi -- it was Marcus and my old unit!
"Marcus!"
"Vin?!"
The Loreesi cavalry charged into the fray, red banners flying. The Lenfel with me were just as shocked as I was. But that didn't stop us from fighting. Soon, outlaws were being cut down left and right, as our combined armies crushed the outlaw force. It was going to be a complete victory . . . but then the magician dude decided to come down from his perch.

The Wind by MasterMinifig, on Flickr
The Wizard smashed into the ground, sending us flying backward. I jumped back up, slightly dazed. The wind started to pick up.
"Fools!" the Wizard bellowed. "Do not stand in my way. I am Deríus, The Wind of Sinking Basin!"
He slammed his staff onto the ground and the wind shot toward him, creating a whirlwind. Fire and wind lifted him high into the air. Flames shot out of the vortex, aimed for our men.
I yelled to Aravis, "Get the men back! Tell them to fall back!"
The Wizard's voice boomed from within the whirlwind. "The Queen has requested my help, and it shall be given. You cannot stop me."
Miri had pulled together a few Lenfel archers, but all their arrows were blown to the side.
The wind continued to pick up, getting stronger and stronger.
Aravis turned to me. "What in the world! I thought magic was weak on the mainland."
"I don't get it either, but now is not the right time to discuss this. Men are dying, and I don't know how to stop it!" I knocked out a nearby outlaw in frustration.
Miri ran over to us. "All his power is coming from his staff,"
My head jerked up and caught a glimpse of the Wizard's black staff, mounted with gold and blazing with fire. "That thing?"
Miri nodded, panting. "If we could break it --"
That was enough to convince me. I took off toward Deríus, picking up a battle axe on the way. By then, the wind was so strong that I could barely keep my footing. It was also getting hotter. Suddenly, a bolt of fire exploded in front of me, knocking me onto my back.
"I said, none shall stand in my way!"You shall not pass
I lay on the ground, ears ringing as Deríus's whirlwind drew closer and closer. I turned my head and saw my combined army shattered by blasts of fire. It's now or never Vin. Show your mettle.
With Daríus almost on top of me, I launched myself into his whirlwind. I could feel the fire catching on my cloak as I swung my axe at the Wizard's staff, smashing it into pieces. Breaking it sent out a shockwave that sent me flying backward into a tree, and then everything went black.
To be continued. . .
