Here follow my entries for the Global Challenge. More pictures and a separate thread will go online tomorrow: Secret Pathways Challenge: Espionage Size: Bignette Story: After the Congress of Lenfald and the vote for the new High-Lord Mitah Val Karem and Orin Wenslav, who just lost the vote to the honourable Albrecht von Falkenborg, stayed in the capital for a while to catch up on the latest political developments. One evening Lord Val Karem asked Lord Wenslav to join him on a walk through the dungeons of Stonewald Castle. Mitah: It is time I share important information with you. I wanted to wait until the vote is finished and I had hoped you would be High-Lord by now, but this cannot wait any longer. It seems Loreos, and especially the Areani Order, did not take too kindly to Lenfald's newfound independence and there has been an assassination attempt on a high Loreesi leader.Orin: I have heard so, too. Do you fear another war?Mitah: Indeed. We lost many ships, and our supplies of weapons and armour are dwindling. We are vulnerable - so it seems to be a lucky coincidence that some associates of mine have recently discovered something... I will have to show you. Follow meThey went on until they reached the farthest corners of the lower levels. At the end of a small corridor, an inconspicuous door appeared. Orin: I have never been so deep down.Mitah: Few have. But it seems long ago the Shadow Order have installed hidden pathways all over Stonewald Castle and other fortifications all over Lenfald. They prepared to.... Shhhhhh. did you hear that?Orin: I did. I think someone is following us.Mitah: Quick down the stair and through that door ... Hidden TreasuresChallenge: Preparation Size: Restricted Story: Lord Val Karem and Lord Wenslav entered a small chamber deep below Stonewald Castle. The torch lit the room and the light reflected off rows and rows of shining helms and armoured breastplates. A long row of spears accompanied the armour, and on a balcony above there were multiple racks with swords. Orin: What is this? How did you find this?Mitah: In time... first we must take care of our pursuer. They went up to the balcony and Lord Val Karem took a crossbow from one of the racks. Soon, a dark figure entered the room, moving in absolute silence. We take no chances Mitah whispered to Lord Wenslav and with a loud crack the bolt went off - straight through the chest of the unsuspecting pursuer. They went down to the lower level and searched the intruder. They found nothing besides a small sword and a dagger. Orin: These are no Lenfel clothings. He seems to be from the south. Maybe an outlaw?Mitah: Maybe. Or a spy. Or another assassin. It does not matter. He won't tell any stories. Back to the important part: there are at least a dozen more chambers down here, filled with all kinds of weapons. Enough for a small army. Come what may,we will be prepared.Orin: So it seems.Mitah: Oh, I nearly forgot. There is another matter. And this one should be very interesting, especially for you.Orin: Why so ominous?Mitah: You will see. If we leave now we can reach the cost by dawn. Back From The DeadChallenge: Preparation Size: Unrestricted Story: Lord Mitah Val Karem and Lord Orin Wenslav reached the Great Western Port by the western shore just after the sun came up. As they rode through Isil Oro few people were on the streets, yet as they reached the Harbour Gate a small mob blocked the way to the harbour. They made their way through the crowd and finally came to the gate. The city watch, blocking all access to the harbour, let them through and as soon as they passed the gate Lord Wenslav saw what all this was about. He stopped and just stood there, not believing what he saw. Orin: This cannot be. Is this really the ...Mitah: Yes it is. The Pride of the West , the flagship of the western fleet.Orin: But she was lost in the war. No-one knew what happened.A soldier approached: Mylord, our troops have secured the harbour. The Pride was just towed in tonight. It seems the deck was completely burned and the captain's cabin was completely destroyed. The hull seems to be intact though. I have sent men under deck to check the cargo. Two soldiers carried trunks from the hold of the ship to the dock. Lord Wenslav immediately searched every each, but soon he stopped, not able to hide his disappointment. Orin: Treasures and weapons. Not a single map, no charts. They must have burned with the rest of the ship. I fear we will never know whether the expedition was a success or not.Mitah: I am sorry, old friend. But look on the bright side. With the hull and the lower decks hardly damaged she will be seaworthy again in a few weeks. Maybe it was meant to be that you did not get elected High-Lord. Maybe this next journey will be yours.
Wow, 6 minutes before the deadline. Nailed it.

GCX restricted entry
GCX Restricted-Preparation-Planting the Seeds by animmortal, on Flickr Recent disappearances in the country side and the instability and questionable future across the lands has caused the people to flock the relative security of the larger cities. Across the land in mostly isolated cities a scene is playing out. While the masses flock to the cities, scatted amongst the populace hooded figures travel with the pack. Solitary figures hiding their features, some traveling with others and some by themselves. Wagon loads of food and supplies travel as merchants and nobles bring the goods to either sell or add to the stock rooms. Every now and then from a wagon a squeak is heard. Rats, one of mankind's oldest plagues, squirm in the box loads. Being smuggled into the cities, these living plague carriers will spread and breed. The mood is grim as everyone everywhere prepares for the worst. Gates re reinforced and when a gate isn't available the passage is obstructed as best as possible.

GCX Restricted - Revenge Category
Dunharris Burns------------------------------------ Build may or may not be guaranteed to be over 9000x more epic if you listen to this to go with the build The reduced band of warriors slowly trundled along the path towards the coast. Many soldiers were bandaged, having been burned or clawed by the Echowyrm. But now the battle was over(See RoninDragonslayer's GC Unrestricted, coming later tonight, to see how the battle went!). Men had been lost to the beast, and others who were too battered to make the return trip were being healed at the Orevale hospital. The small sloped smattering of hills leading to the coastline brought the fading sunrise into view as they trudge up it slowly. Sir Ian led the band. He smelled the familiar smell of fish and salt spicing the sea air. There seemed to be something else unusual mixed with it; an alien presence in the usual menagerie of fishing town scents. The due of the hill fell away to present the open plain. Sir Ian Drakesbane fell to his knees. Pouring from the city like an angry black fog was a vast, churning, roiling cloud of smoke. A cackling, spiteful blaze trimmed it, pouring flame, ash and thousands of sparks from the rooftops of the city. As he watched, helpless from the mile away, an enormous section of the city crumpled in defeat, surrendering a gust of sparks into the turmoil. Sir Ian wept as the long column came to a stop on the hill top, lining beside him; transfixed with shock and horrow as their home was consumed by the bellowing inferno. "GO! All of you! Scatter! LEAVE!" He screamed, emotion pounding and blurring in his mind. The Southern wind blew gently, clutching his tattered cloak and holding it to his side, like a grim and weary banner sadly saluting the end fiery of a rising city. He bowed his head and wept again. Then, rising slowly, clutched his spear tightly with a hot fury and strode down the path towards the gate. ------------------------------------

My other two GCX entries. Whew! Unrestricted (yes, it does fit the size) GCX-Preparation-Rushing South by Mark of Siloam, on Flickr Hildegard rode south at the request of Eudes. His mission was to find news of what was going on with Lenfald and send word back to Siloam Castle. Otherwise, his secondary goal was to find an outlaw named Kreslin. He had been threatening Garhims to try to find out where Mark was. He was not successful, though. He had not seen Mark in nearly eight months. Hildegard’s news of Lenfald would not be good… Bignette The Ground Has Ears by Mark of Siloam, on Flickr “Hildegard, this way.” Hildegard was lead down a street by a Garhim whom he could trust. There had been suspicious Lenfel activity around a house in Garheim. There was fortunately an old Garhim tunnel leading beneath the house. Hildegard and his guide stopped and waited. A suspicious Lenfel soon glanced around him and ducked into the empty house. Another one was coming down a side street. Hildegard and his guide headed down into the tunnel and stopped where they thought they were under the house. They heard a door close above them signaling that another person had entered the room. They heard thus: “The border is not much for them to defend- they wouldn’t have much of a hard time with that. If there is any military action to be taken, let it be by sea. They will not expect that.” “Yes, but hopefully that won’t have to happen. I’ll wait for my orders, sir.” “Good. You know the signal?” Silence. Hildegard had a message to deliver.

Post by Sir Caedric Moore on May 3, 2015 19:39:57 GMT -8
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-GCX Preparation - A Call to Arms-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- The midday sun slanted down through passing clouds, melting the snow on the ground and causing the rest to glisten off the tips of the scrubby pines and sparse grasses of northern Orevale. The sounds of men filled the air - handcarts filled with gleaming armor creaked and clacked over cobblestones, soldiers and pages bustled to and fro arms laden with swords and spears, and men and women of the Valeguard in the yard below trained with the longspear and the siege crossbow under the tutelage of Vigilants and Rangers. Sir Caedric Moore looked on with a blank stare; normally his men brought him some modicum of pride, but his mind was elsewhere. A grey woolen cloak was fastened around his shoulders and clasped with the likeness of an ivory owl and an onyx falcon, tugged by the cold wind that blew through the tops of the pines and firs and over the stone crenelations of Castle Valeguard's deeping wall. He wondered what it would be like to ride that wind... to fly like the dragons did... Or still do, really..."Captain," a bowman said as he passed on his rounds, throwing a snowy owl off his fist. "A war party from Dunharris has just arrived at the north gate. Sir Hollander has taken the men-at-arms down to the kitchens, but he's sent the Drake's Bane straight up to see you." "Good. Anything else?" he answered a bit too gruffly. "Aye, m'lord. They've brought some war machine with them. A great wooden bow on wheels - takes two men to work it, moving parts and all... too much for me, m'lord." "Hmm... As you were." He looked out over the forest once more as the bowman continued his rounds and awaited Sir Ian."Sir Caedric," a voice sounded to his left. "Quite a castle you've got here. Nothing the likes of Mikithdar, but a bulwark nonetheless. Sir Ian," the man said, extending his hand. "The Drake's Bane, come to Orevale" Caedric remarked, shaking the sandy-haired man's hand. "You've truly slain a sea-drake?" "Aye, but only the one," he replied with a grin, brandishing the longspear he held. "Your missive tells of a dragon - what sort of beast is it?" "I had no idea until recently aside from its appearance, a great black demon belching fire and death, but I've just found a tome that tells of ancient dragons - beasts that our father's fathers dealt with. It's called an Echowyrm." Memories of the passage he'd read came back to him.
Bane of the northmen, the shadow in the darkness, the Echowyrm resides in caverns near subterranean lakes where it feeds on bats and blind fish. Seldom seen above ground, the Echowyrm only leaves the caves it calls home when rearing a nest of young to forage for more food as the whelps are ravenously hungry."Well that means there are two," Sir Ian pondered. "Or at least two, rather..." "Indeed what I had feared. Not only must we slay the Wyrm, but we must first wound it and trail it back to its den." "Well," Sir Ian replied with a grin. "We could always tie a rope to the arrow that the ballista casts and hold on for the ride." -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- My Restricted Entry (24x24) for the Global Challenge X Comments and criticism welcome!
