PrologHello everybody In this thread I will post all my creations. First I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Simon, I’m nearly 40 years old, married and live in Switzerland. I am father of three children and this is one of the reasons I ended my dark ages about six years ago. Since then I was often searching the internet for lego stuff in an “anonymous mode”. About a year ago I decided to join the lego community officially. And this was also the moment I registered on this page. With lots of self-inflicted and other-directed interruptions and delays I’d like to start my story here and now. And I would like to invite you to put your c+c in hier. PS: and yes, English isn’t my mother tongue. That means even if I understand and read it well, I always feel somehow … let’s say restricted… if I have to express myself Therefore in the future I have to find a balance in between pictures and words. And …my ……response ……time ………… may ………… be ………………………… very ……………… slow but Part1 will follow soon

Part1: how it beganOut of reasons not to be mentioned here and driven by a dream getting stronger and stronger, Xymion had to leave his home and his old life almost a year ago. After straying around he eventually started to understand this dream. From now on he was assured that his current destination was to find a certain place of which he got a picture in his dream becoming clearer and clearer with each retake. Driven by this intention his whole life changed suddenly and without knowing how, he found his way over the last months and yards to this new unknown place. The place he didn’t even know the name of until a few moments ago. Now standing in front of the building of his dream, it was clearly written on the banner outside: MERLIN'S BEARD And then he entered…. An just to announce beside the Sing-Up hier is my 'confessio et sententia' again. The meaning of this and how his story continues the future will show. -------------------------------------------------- And I hope you enjoyed it, especially the windows. Kindly Simon

Welcome to Lenfald, and what a great start it is! That has to be the largest and most detailed CIC I've ever seen, and it's fantastic. Be sure and let us know on the main Lenfald Official Faction Thread when you post something, other wise you may not get your points! A link to this thread is fine, just let us know you have a new build to look at. Like you I am mature and have 2 boys, who dragged me into the entire LEGO world and now it eats up all my free time and much of my $$$ And just to let you know, when we lived in Germany for 3 years, beautiful Switzerland was our favorite country to visit. It's a truly wonderful nation.

Fantastic MOC! Those windows are superb, as well as most everything else in this build. Individually, you've done a great job on each section. As a whole, I think it could be a little more cohesive (right now the architecture and "theming" of it seems to be running to and fro), but it's a great build to start your journey here on Merlins Beard.
It's a pleasure to have you!

Welcome to the best faction in Roawia! I really like how you created those faction banners. Your use of mosaics for those and the windows is superb. I can't wait to see what other great things you build in the future!

Excellent build and welcome to Lands of Roawia! I love that window technique. I may have to try it - with a nod and an honorable mention to you, of course

AK_Brickster Thank you Grandmaster for welcoming me I'm looking forward to a good time Sir Caelan Munro Master, your wish is my command. I'm gonna fulfill my task of 'Lenfald posting' soon. And if I'm allowed to ask, where have you been living in D? Andared Thanks for your honest and critical response, I like harsh and straightforward words. Imo they always help getting better, for all sides. To dig a little bit deeper: Do you mean the different elements (wall types, etc.) do not fit together, or are there too many of them in total? AardWolf Thanks Sir. Hopefully I haven't overdone myself and screwed the high expectations unnecessarily for my future here Sir Caedric Moore Also many thanks to you, Sir. About the Windows: Development aid for Garheim? ..... mmhhhhh.... *nod* *nod* ...for Loreos I would have to think twice....... This is just one of the reasons why I joined here. I would like to exchange with other AFOLs from my side that means -> feel free to use what you see but always good to mention the creator

Andared Thanks for your honest and critical response, I like harsh and straightforward words. Imo they always help getting better, for all sides. To dig a little bit deeper: Do you mean the different elements (wall types, etc.) do not fit together, or are there too many of them in total? I would say yes to both questions. For instance, on one wall, you have entirely flat stone. On the second wall, you have stone, but it's highly textured and "dirty". On the third wall, you have practically all wood. I think that all of these types of architecture can work well individually, but not as a whole. You could perhaps even blend two of these styles together, but all three just seems like too much. In general, I would usually use more than two types of architecture for a single building, as it can appear somewhat chaotic, and lacking in structure. It makes the building look as though you kept running out of a certain type of bricks, and there's no pattern. With that being said, I'm just the type of person that loves to see patterns. I like to have one cohesive theme running throughout a build. Other people may prefer multiple themes, so that could come down to individual preference more than anything else, but those are just my thoughts.
