Survey taken. I had to tick the '1-2 Mocs a month' option, even though it's probably been about that every 6 months. As much as we would all like to have more influence over the story, if every tom, dick or harry (is that just a British phase?) was able to start a rebellion or go against the story, then it would make things very difficult and messy. What I HAVE enjoyed is people collaborating on their personal stories (such as Erathor and Brick_Ninja!). This is a great way for there to be more interconnection between players, without everyone trying to be the star of the Global Story. I've skim read the comments above and agree that the idea of factions gaining 'influence' over the story sounds interesting. Could be fun that a faction gets to decide on their FL's decision (eg yes we want war, or no we want cake. etc) and people might feel they have more involvement. I haven't had any problems with the Global updates and don't see the need for a 'scribe'. Adding another person into the process would seem to make things more complicated. We just have to appreciate that the KC are running this in their free time. And maybe people need to be given enough to do while they wait for the next update (though the guilds and LCs provide this if anyone is actually lacking in direction!). Personally, I'd like a time of peace, and opportunity to run with my own character development a bit without needing to get him to a certain place for a certain battle every other month Looking forward to seeing the changes.

I agree with what lots of you said and don't see any need to repeat it all , but one thing is like some said I think it would be great if, supposing you want a build to go along with the story and don't have time to do it yourself, you could ask someone who is active to build a MOC. For example, I would love to build something for the global storyline, all you need to do is tell me exactly what to build and you'd have it in a couple days ( and it would be awesome ! ). Some other not so addressed issues are the rules of having to include your sigfig in entries to the GC, and having to always include the banner of your faction. First off, lets be honest, who obeys these? And who when the don't gets in trouble for it? Second, it's very restricting IMHO especially for the vig; I mean you got an 8x8 and you have to include you sigfig and your banners! That leaves very little room for anything else, so all the vigs that follow these rules look super similar. Plus storywise it's not easy to include your character, there are many examples of this, such as last GC and the one before that (and the one before that and the one before that ...) had other strict rules; show thing getting back to normal FE. But what if your sigfig doesn't want thing to go back to normal? Or what if he is in someones dungeon? You'd have to completely mess up your story to enter! Or having to include a Garhim or two in your MOC; what if again, your fig is in a dungeon, or if he's is out in the swamps hunting ATM, IMO, this could really destroy someones story and they might not enter the GC because of it (or of course they might just ignore the rule, since they're very unlikely to be DQed for it). I don't say totally scrap the rules though, just don't make it a must, add the phrase "where possible" or "where applicable", see what I'm talking about? Yah, you might say "it helps you be creative" but I repeat, it could totally mess up your story and dissuade you from participating in some GC, I'm almost there myself. Just one last thing, I think the scribe is a good idea, because though to those of us who read the story updates as they come it may not be noticeable, if you go read a couple updates in a row you could very easily see the difference between peoples writings. That's all for now, I don't envy the KC having to think through all these ideas !

Railroading - Mercat went over it well and I agree in general but I don't think this is an issue that anyone is unaware of. I don't know that I would carry faction points through from one GC to the next. Use the outcomes of a GC in whatever way to determine what happens next and then wipe them. It would prevent accumulated deficits and advantages that would throw things out of balance.
Regarding Faction Lead Characters - Yes, they are simple. Very simple. I have just always thought that was most practical rather than being a glaring flaw. Without more player influence, leaders doing wild and crazy things makes for much more exaggerated 'railroading'. If you guys find a way to make decisions more community lead, then less pedantic leaders might be feasible. I feel differently about Chartres though I'm not sure why. He just seems very, very contrived.
C&C - I haven't been here to see what kind of comments there have been on builds lately but I have ALWAYS valued most the comments that tell me what I could have done better and then maybe something they liked. I am terribly guilty of not taking the time to do this for others though and should make a point of changing that. Maybe we need to be a little more aggressive in asking for criticism to help people open up.
Finally, Builds in Updates - I REALLY don't care. Other players can build but then they have to be in the know. That just brings up another thing to address but I guess it's worth considering. I would not mind in the least if updates didn't have builds as a rule. I would much rather get an update quickly and move forward than wait for the FO to have a free weekend and moreover, I would rather the FOs be building a little of what they want for their character when they get that free weekend. It is too easy to pass lightly over the amount of time and commitment this kind of game requires of it's leaders. Whatever changes are made in 2.0, I would like to know that they are sustainable and that our leaders will be able to have fun with us. The more of a commitment we require from FOs the more difficult it will be to have other people try their hand at it in the future and the more likely we are to burn out current ones.

Ok, I've got a question for the KC AK_Brickster@caelan@schmidt@mattiusxavier: In the new update, will we throw out the current storyline and just reset to new premises, or continue this one? I personally would like to stay with this one for as long as LoR exists, as I feel it has potential and we've already fleshed it out quite a bit.

Hey Ian, I don't want to spoil anything, but this is not a start-over.
There will be some soft resets, and adjustments, but we've invested a lot into this story and plan to proceed with it.

Ok, I'm glad. I'm hoping that sometime in the future we can send explorers to other continents outside Roawia.

I would like a space forum that has a similar ranking system, with the personal points. Galactic bricks is a good start, but their idea of the 5 star systems where everything happens seems too restrictive. A star wars forum would be pretty cool, I'd be down to help organize such a forum.
I completed the survey, and I have to say that the current storyline and faction leaders, liaisons and kings council is good at their job, I would like more input, or even leadership, if I'm elected to a position, and if we have elections in the first place. I personally think that each "player" so to speak, can have several main characters from different factions, like an outlaw character and a garhim for example. It would let players be more flexible with their builds and their stories.

Finished the survey, and honestly, I was thinking of joining a different RPG or starting my own, but maybe Merlin's Beard is worth saving. At least there some history here to work with, and I like the layout and lands. So here is what I propose we do:
Story First off, calling it Lands of Roawia 2.0 doesn't really fit the genre. Instead, Roawia should enter the Second Age or something along those lines. To usher in this age, a challenge between the Assassin Guild and the Hero Guild will take place. Each character will be fair game to be assassinated or protected. The normal process of building and nominating and voting will take place. Based on the results, the story will grow organically with the characters remaining (if any). In this way the challenge directly affects the story. I have some ideas, based on possible results, of how it could evolve from there, but I'm going to keep you in suspense. I like the idea that global updates will contain mocs from the challenges, and possibly combine that with added mocs for aiding in the telling of the story. Additional shots of the moc may be required for that, so as an incentive for keeping the moc around and shooting more photos, we should keep with handing out prizes to the winners and maybe special thank you rewards for your moc making it into the story; the rewards could be points or just prestige.
Game Mechanics Building on Mercat's idea with the points, the more prominent a player's character becomes (same for fractions), the more they can/will play a role in the story. The points will make this manageable so that the story won't turn into Wheel of Time, where it becomes difficult to move the story forward at a descent pace.
A similar mechanism could work for the guilds. I'd like them to have a more prominent role, but based on active membership instead.
The game should be more meaningful - your character and fraction will be at risk.
Roles The Bard - This will be the Senior Editor and Story Teller. They will make sure there is continuity in the writing and be in charge of the story - without railroading, of course. The Bard probably won't do much building. The Bard will volunteer for 1 year to run the story. After that, a vote/survey will take place with all the players. If reelected, the Bard has the option of continuing. If the Bard doesn't get reelected, or decides to step down, then the story should pass to one of the Minstrels. The Minstrel/new Bard will then decide to take Roawia into a new age or remain in the same age. The Bard will allocate points for challenges, both global and local.
The Minstrels - These will be a group of assistant storytellers. The will participate in the writing, editing, and story development. They will keep up with various individual storylines and make the Bard aware of them. They will keep tally of the points. And finally, they may assist in mocs for the story updates.
The Council - This will be comprised of fraction leaders and guild leaders. They will advise the Bard and Minstrels of the sentiment and desires of their domains. The story group should incorporate some of the sentiment into the story. Also, the story group will seek council from the leaders on where they plan to take the fractions/guilds. The council can request Local Challenges as well. The council should also advise, or have oversight, of the game mechanics.
Thoughts?

Survey completed, nothing to add to Mercat's posts... nail, meet head (bonus points for 'Mary-Sue' and'Railroading')
Just to re-iterate the most obvious flaws: inconsistent characterization of the leaders, no real impact of single players (even winners) on the overall storyline, no MOCs with story updates (these should count at least as a free-build for the FO/FLs),
and something that it seems we all are guilty of: inconsequential/meaningless C&C on the MOCs...

This is a boys only club? Whoops, somehow I missed that, Sorry, I couldn't resist. There was one other thing that I forgot to mention the first time around - well, really two things - is it really necessary to require GC's to include your main character? I don't really see what the point of that is and all it does is mess up secondary storylines. The same thing with the inclusion of your faction's banner. I mean, here I am building a nice casual scene of a shepherd or something, and, well, obviously it would look a little ridiculous to have my faction's flags sticking up out of the mountain side! So I'm reduced to an almost mandatory border, rather than a neat irregular base. If you can include the colors/your sigfig, great! But I don't see why it should be a rule. At the most, I'd think "including your faction's colors is highly recommended" would be enough. Plus it seems people ignore that last rule at least quite frequently. Which leaves me in a catch twenty-two... do I ignore it and take my chance of a DQ? Or do I do it and mess up my MOC? --That was written before I saw Josdu's comment. Great minds, right?-- Also, I agree with the comments about faction points - it would help if they actually meant something. GoH kind of has this problem too. Third, right now it kind of feels like LC's don't have any impact on, well, anything. For some, it's obvious why - like the Loreos riderball tournament. But once in a while it would be nice if an LC had a major story impact. Also, it would be nice if the Brawl system had some impact (perhaps even a replacement for points?). I think there's a lot of potential there but it's just kind of sizzled out. This is not something that has much to do with the KC, rather all members, but since it's been brought up: As for C&C, yes, that's something LoR lacks on where I think GoH has a lot more of a community feeling. It's so much easier just to say, "Great build!" or "Wow, that's awesome!" than to give a two or three line comment about what specifically you liked or didn't like. But the two line comment will be much more appreciated - even if it's rather negative. It doesn't have to be done every time, but it's really nice to get a comment or two like that! Last but certainly not least - no, I don't believe that every Tom, Dick, and Harry is just an British saying.

Great minds, right?-- This section is what we just worked out an answer for over at the suggestion thread. photoshop into the top corner a sig banner do your irregular build, no faction colours or the like, nice serene scene (heehee) and then when you take the pictures, take a "LOR - LOREO" banner from the banner page and paste it in the top corner. i personally have many ideas and such that i would love to type in here right now, but i am at work, and a client just arrived... so i should really... do my job... instead of getting hyped in here... Tons of great ideas and such though so far! i am willing to help with almost anything as well, my story writting skills suck, but my managment and information retention and explaining rules are amazing! i am a counsellor in my real job. so i explain for a living. also, i completed the survey.

Otherwise, every active player will be assassinated.

This way, the community chooses who lives based on the choices of the guilds and the results of the voting/challenge. But I do think there should be risk involved, and it would be possible to have your character killed if you choose to participate in a risk-ladened challenge.
