Just logged in and seems to be ok for me... for the time being. I'm sure whatever the changes are will roll out across the globe in time.
One thing people seem to forget with the petitioning/black day thing is that the lego community is but a TINY part of flickr users. Sure, we feel like there are a lot of us, as I'm assuming that's what we mainly use the site for however a quick look on wikipedia reveals that...
"The Verge reported in March 2013 that Flickr had a total of 87 million registered members and more than 3.5 million new images uploaded daily.[4] In August 2011 the site reported that it was hosting more than 6 billion images and this number continues to grow steadily according to reporting sources"
I'm guessing there's maybe a few thousand AFOLS/TFOLs on the site. Let's be generous and say there's 8,700 (to make the sums easier) that makes 0.01% of flickr users, so even if ALL those AFOLs posted the Black picture (which they didn't) or signed a petition, then I'm still doubting it would make a blind bit of difference.
As David has said above, flickr seem oblivious to any objections (though one look at their forums should tell them otherwise, so that's odd), but any petition etc would need to reach far and wide outside the AFOL community to make any impact.

To add to my last comment (which doesn't seem to have posted), I already have a GoDaddy domain name and I have some web design software on my computer. The only thing I would need, is for someone to help me with the scripting and coding. As for a name, I was thinking of "BrickPics". What do you all think? ~RBC I think a new lego photo sharing site would be a little redundant and confusing, not to rain on your parade. I mean, most people are already on MOCpages and Flickr, so it would take a long time to get people on it. I think in time we can get used to the new Flickr update, even if it's annoying.

I do think another photo sharing site would be too much. For now, I just changed to French, its kinda like English.....right?

I don't think that anyone should leave Flickr. The actual photo display is awful, but at least it functions well and we still have groups, FMs, etc.. I love Flickr, really, and I wouldn't leave, but I wish that they would listen to their users!

Ugh, I hate the new layout! I went on a couple days ago, and they changed my setup, I had the old one, the GOOD one, but they now changed mine as well! I'll try that Bruce!

The new flickr annoys me as well, but I would like to point out that flickr is part of a larger corporate entity and that whatever design choices they make will be to maximize profits. If they don't think changing back to the old layout will raise profits, then it will not happen, no matter how much we complain. All we can do for now is deal with it or leave. CCG

Well, Brickninja, I felt exactly the same way.

I feel the same way too! I have to be honest, I absolutely despise the new layout. How could they really have envisioned this as an upgrade? I can't find where anything is at, commenting is now a total chore, to the point I don't even want to reply to what people are saying... I just dislike it tremendously.
In my brief time in the LEGO online community (1 1/2 years) FLICKR has underwent three major updates. Is it really necessary to completely redo your website (on the average) every 6 months or so? I realize an organization has to change to continue to grow, but isn't this too far?
More importantly, is there even anything we can do about this, or are we just forced to accept it. That ipernity.com site is looking better all the time.

It's that new head of Flcikr, Meller or whatever her name is. I know for fact that she's wanted to change things round a lot. I'm not leaving for ipernity, as Flickr is still a great place for us LEGO fans to socialise, with the unchanged group pages and with FMs still in place. That leads to another thing - why have they made the new photo page design so inconsistent with the rest of the site?

I've just logged in and it seems I've received the update. To be honest, I was expecting something a lot worse judging from peoples outcry. I appreciate we seem to have lost the notes function (which was mainly useful for "what's this piece?" type questions), but apart from that, I don't see what the big hoohah is all about.
The comment box has moved to the right, photo's are bigger (which is actually quite nice) and there's a black background. Am I missing something or will we all just get use to the change and have another outcry when they change it again in 6-12 months?
Edit: Ok, I take that back, bit confused as to how I'm meant to share a picture... and it also appears you can't tag people in comment? Or at least not in the way you used to be able to?

Commenting to those who have commented on your photo is now an absolute chore. You have to shift+enter, to have a new line break because if you now press enter, it automatically comments. The buddy icons are now practically useless, especially with commenting, and your stuck reading these names on such unsightly colors. Sharing a photo is absolutely painful now, and all the gizmos and doohickeys with that have been haphazardly thrown around by entirely new icons. You can only see a couple of comments at a time as well. It's just an all around trainwreck, IMHO.
The front page isn't that bad, but when you starting browsing pictures in an individuals photostream, that's when it gets horrible.

Thanks for mentioning the new line break technique, I really needed to know that! I don't get why we have to just see the person's 'real name'. We have Flickr names for a reason, so there's no point in them! And buddy icons. Don't get me started on buddy icons. Are you seriously thinking of leaving?

I really wish you would do enter to do a new line and click a button to comment. That's probably my least favorite thing of the new update, besides the lack of a top bar.

So far, switching to French has really worked for me...perhaps you should try that Schmidt. It takes a little bit of getting used to with the different language but its like a neat challenge. All the comments, titles, photo descriptions and others are all English still. It is the same as before they made this most recent switch. Besides, I don't have to read the Flickr settings, I already know what they say. This is my recommendation, choose French or a different language that you may already know. Sir Valiant~
