Now that the Lord's house is looking good I went back and looked at the gatehouse and sadly I have no vision how to finish off the top. Any suggestions ? Ideas?

Maybe some kind of cool wooden structure on top to add a bit more non-gray to the build?

Hmm not a big fan of a wooden structure as it would be prone to burning... what I'm considering now is two corner semi open lookout towers sticking out from the overall structure.
Oh yeah - to break the grey I'm thinking about using sand green tower tops on the lookout towers

Not really keen on mixing red rooftops with sand green in the same structure.

Actually I'm thinking about black and sand green though now that you said it... it might look odd....

I'm evolving... I prototyped a lookout tower. I mimmicked the gatehouse walls (upper level) and started playing with attaching the tower in one corner. Btw, disregard the brick colors - I'm just playing with what was nearby trying to get the shape. Idea is that the guards will be able to look forward and to the sides. Now I need to figure out what to do to look down and over the entryway.... The main structure will be enclosed with a roof.

Yay! Pre-planning! I like the beveled corners.

So I have been thinking - dangerous.... what if I have a tower on each corner that is on an outer wall and a lookout/overlook over the main gate?

I think that is a pretty visually interesting idea. I say you go with it!

I have made the lookout over the entry way shallower by a brick to break it out from the rest. I'm struggling though with entrances to the lookout towers. I wanted to have each one with a door but can't figure out how to place doorways at an angle and not have gaping holes .....

I like the design. Can you make your own doors instead of using the lego pre-made doors? This way you can make them the desired width.

The width isn't an issue. The issue is how to fit angled doorframe in. I will try to take a picture later today to demonstrate what I mean. edit - this is what I'm thinking. I believe that the width is exactly 6 studs across where I want to place the doorways. The only issue that I have is anchoring the dang things....
