Okay, sorry to double post, (great reintroduction to society ) but here is my entry for the newest Local Contest. Lord Dirk of Shieldbury by theboywarrior, on Flickr Lord Dirk of Shieldbury is the brother of the late Lord Martin Shieldkeeper and paternal uncle of Lord Marius. He is a soldier through and through, and even in his old age will accompany perimeter guards on their patrols.

Well guys, at long last, I'm ready to begin anew with the great faction of Lenfald. It's been too long since I've had the chance to build, but I've finally found time to work that back into my schedule. I'll be posting the first chapter of my tale very soon, but I thought I'd start off with a quick introduction of my new character first. Michael Breadman:LoR Character Introduction: Michael Breadman by Andared of Lenfald, on Flickr Michael is the son of Nathaniel and Abigail Breadman. His father, Nathaniel, is also the owner of the prestigious Oar and Boar Inn, located in the city of Bladefall. Michael was born a commoner, and his skills drew him toward the woodland realm, where he now hunts. He has a thirst for adventure, and he wishes to journey beyond his homeland someday. Michael will be my main character for LoR, as well as the chief protagonist in my upcoming tale, this first chapter of which will be posted very, very soon. I've worked very hard to get all the details straightened out for this story, and I would greatly appreciate it if you took the time to follow along with the story for the first few chapters and see if you like it (the invitation goes out to more than just people from Lenfald by the way)! This tale will feature main characters from all 4 factions, and, in my opinion, the writing is some of my best work I've ever done. I'm very excited to be joining the ranks of Lenfald once more, and I hope you all will benefit in one way or another from my contributions. It's a pleasure to have a community of fellow builders and writers, and I am proud be a member of LoR, and more importantly, Lenfald!

As promised, here is my kickoff build for the great faction of Lenfald. This will not be a freebuild, however. I'm actually entering it into the "Industrious Lands of Lenfald" LC, which I never entered with Andared, my previous character. The industry being portrayed is hunting. ~Journey Among Thieves~ Chapter One: "A Long Overdue Celebration"~Journey Among Thieves~ Chapter One: "A Long Overdue Celebration" by Andared of Lenfald, on Flickr I won't post the stories for these chapters on Lenfald's main page, as they are fairly lengthy (although the first one isn't terribly long), but the story can be viewed on either Flickr, or on the topic which I will post in the "Completed builds" section here on Merlin's Beard. A big thanks to Caelan for some advice he gave me long ago regarding picture taking. His advice was of immense help to me, and I deeply appreciate it. I hope you all enjoy, and remember to check out the story!

For LC-18, but not entries which compete for the win (for our new members, as an FO, I don't compete in LCs but do compete in GCs). These are to help flesh out Lenfald's leaders. For all our LC-18 entries I will create a separate thread so we can keep them, with a link on the first post under leadership. The Grand Duke of DurroughLord Cartney is the highly-effective Grand Duke of Durrough. His shrewd and careful leadership ensured Durrough County weathered the severe trials of the last three years of conflict with minimal damage in spite of heavy fighting. His clever use of deception allowed him to outwit the Queen’s agents during the recent war with the Queen, and as a reward Cartney was recently promoted to Grand Duke. He has a loving marriage with Lady Fiona of Stoneborough, and has recently become a father to twin boys. Intelligent, calm and even-tempered, overly-groomed and overdressed for every occasion, he is often underestimated by those who do not know him. He can be aloof to those whom he doesn't trust, and his subtle and wry humor sometimes goes over the heads of his audience. Yet his proven leadership has resulted in the Duke becoming one of the most-respected citizens of all Lenfald. He is far too shrewd a statesman to reveal his intentions, but is completely loyal to Lenfald in every way. The Grand Duke of Ainesford Lord Sorley Meyrick, the Grand Duke of Ainesford, has had a celebrated and storied life, starting out as a young ranger over twenty years ago. Losing his right eye to an orc as he slew it, he left the ranger life to become an adventurer, merchant (some say smuggler) of high-priced weapons and wares, and then eventually a statesman. He was widely admired until his disastrous leadership at the Battle of Ainesford, where he fought the Loreesi in an open field battle and lost badly to Mark of Falworth. He barely retained his title over Ainesford as a result, but partly redeemed himself by quickly overcoming the Queen’s forces during the last conflict. Cold, shifty and sarcastic, he is known for “playing his cards close to his chest” in all matters of state. Yet it is well-known that he does not relish another battle with the Loreesi.

Hey guys, here's my entries to LC 18. Hope you all like them! Entry #1: Dame Caterina Ashglow, Officer-in-Command of the Jade PhantomsName: Caterina Ashglow Age: 27 Gender: Female ————————————— Dame Caterina Ashglow is the head of the Jade Phantoms, a secretive, highly-trained unit, akin to the Emerald Wolves, though they aren’t mercenaries. Newly formed, the Jade Phantoms have yet to be combat tried, though all their members have extensive experience separately. Caterina was born and raised in Stonewald, and knew Triphian before he was High Lord, though only in passing. From an early age, it was apparent she had a great aptitude for weapons and combat, and she aspired to join the Rangers from almost the start. Unfortunately for her, she was the only daughter of wealthy parents, (who disapproved of her “unladylike” aspirations), and they desired her to marry a rich merchant or lord’s son, and start a family instead. Caterina chose adventuring, and ran away to Ainesford, where she joined the Rangers, when she was sixteen. Quickly rising through the ranks, Caterina fast became a highly respected and looked up to Ranger. Her skill with her custom-made crossbow and longsword were well-known throughout the Rangers. Her baptism of fire occurred during the War of Roawian Succession a few years later. While on patrol with her unit along the Lenfald-Loreos border, they were attacked by several mounted Loreesi knights. The unit was caught unprepared, and most were cut down in minutes. The unit commander was wounded, and, unable to defend himself, would have been killed, but Caterina fought her way to him, and single-handedly held off and slew the five remaining knights, despite receiving several injures, including the scar on her face. Her unit commander was saved, and while recovering recommended her to Triphian for a Damehood. Triphian agreed, and awarded Caterina the Damehood, and command of an entire unit of Rangers. When they finally heard of all this, rather than being proud of her, her parents disowned her. In defiance however, Caterina continued to use the Ashglow name. For the next few years Caterina moved from place to place, serving with the unit under her command, until the war with the Queen and her armies, when Caterina’s unit was involved in heavy fighting, and most were killed or crippled. Caterina herself narrowly escaped death several times throughout the course of the war. After the war, she decided to break off from the Rangers, and start her own special group, the Jade Phantoms. She began recruiting the most skilled and deadly warriors, determined to have the best special force in Lenfald, and quickly built up a formidable host, dedicated to defending Lenfald, anywhere, anytime. Tall, and powerfully built, Caterina’s striking wine-red hair and sultry good looks make her quite popular with men, though she often turns down their romantic advances, seemingly uninterested in dating or marriage. However, she has expressed admiration for a few men, High Lord Triphian and Duke Cartney amongst others. With a temper as fiery as her hair, Caterina will always speak her mind, and almost never backs down from anything, be it a fight or a political disagreement. She is fiercely loyal to Triphian, and Glorious Lenfald as a whole, and has been known to often voice her intense dislike of the Loreesi. Entry #2: The Honourable Merchant Halbert Abthony Name: Halbert Abthony Age: 46 Gender: Male ————————————— A highly respected merchant of Durrough, specializing in fine Loreesi wines, Halbert Abthony comes from a long and venerable line of wine merchants. Born in Ainesford, he acquired a taste for Loreesi wine, and after moving to Durrough when he was twenty, began to import and sell them. twenty-two years later, his wine business is thriving, and he supplies notable places like the Black Swan, and the Crossed Oars, to name a few. In recent months however, business has declined slightly, as anti-Loreesi protests have led to less people buying from him, on the grounds his product is from Loreos. Even-tempered and polite even on the worst days, Halbert is a bit of a fop, always being overdressed, but is well-liked, despite his support of Loreesi wine. He is happily married to Lady Bianca, the daughter of a minor lord, and is hoping for an heir to someday take over his business. Halbert can often be found walking around the city each morning, an activity he does to stay healthy and fit, and visiting the many markets in the city. --------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Joshua

Here are my LC18 entries: Counselor DarrowLenfald is a nation that believes in individual freedoms, including that of spiritual and religious beliefs. Lenfels are free to believe and practice whatever faiths or religions they choose so long as they do no harm to others in the process. To prevent quarrel and encourage religious groups to work for the betterment of all the people of Roawia, Lenfald's leaders long ago established the position of Counselor, a sort of spiritual leader and mediator for the land. Elected by a council of one hundred members of varying beliefs and backgrounds, he encourages understanding, open discussion, and peace, as well as resolving disputes between religious groups. Westrius Darrow is the first Counselor to be elected since the death of Maldrake (the previous Counselor was killed by the evil wizard for refusing to worship him) and is highly regarded by most religious people in Lenfald. He is quite charitable and prefers to dress in simple robes over fanciful attire. He is a strong advocate for Lenfald's environment; he believes that nature will return to people what they give it- that if Lenfels treat plants and animals with respect and use only what they need, they will guarantee their prosperity forever. On moral grounds, Counselor Darrow does not yield, and he sees the decision currently facing Lenfald as a very simple one: Lenfald must remain free and must seize this opportunity to open itself as a safe haven for all inhabitants of Roawia. Field Marshal von FalkenborgField Marshal Albrecht von Falkenborg was born into the powerful Hahnker family just before the rule of High Lord Wensesclaus II began. From a young age, Albrecht was immersed in the game of politics and power, as at least one member of the Hahnker family has held a seat in the Falkenborg Council of Regents since the city was founded. This early exposure to politics made Albrecht quite gregarious and exceptionally adept in all social situations. His intelligence shone through even during his childhood; Albrecht could often be found tinkering with tools in one of Falkenborg's smithies or watching, wide-eyed, as an alchemist demonstrated mesmerizing reactions of metal and liquid. As he aged, Albrecht remained studious but also developed quite an interest in military tactics, for which he showed a high aptitude. When he was just ten, Albrecht found a mentor in renowned tactician Bernard Knapp, whose encouragement and wisdom led Albrecht to a seat in the Lower Council of Falkenborg at only thirteen years of age. His wisdom and charm impressed the other members of the council, who recommended him for admittance into Lenfald's prestigious Academy of Military Disciplines. There, Albrecht was taught everything from swordplay and archery to tactics and campaign strategy. He received additional instruction on naval warfare during his free time, becoming one of the most versatile and knowledgable officers in all of Roawia. His first assignment utilized both his naval and land warfare skills as the commander of a Lenfel Marine detachment. During his time with the Marines, now Captain Albrecht von Falkenborg distinguished himself during the decimation of the pirate fleets harassing Lenfel trading vessels near the northern coasts. Albrecht was promoted repeatedly throughout his career, receiving the appointment to Field Marshal from High Lord Wensesclaus II himself, and was placed in command of the armies of Northeast Lenfald. Years later, during the War of Roawian succession, Field Marshal von Falkenborg and his men rushed to defend Stonewald from the advancing Loreesi hordes. He later organized and trained fighting units during the dark times of the Queen's rule and participated in the assaults on the royal castle and Falkenborg, and in the campaign to free Garheim. Highly intelligent in both tactical expertise and human relations, a seasoned veteran of several major campaigns, and with the most outstanding mustache in Lenfald, Field Marshal von Falkenborg is an expected face at the Congress in Stonewald.

Okay, below are my two entries to the awesome LC18! Marquise Minerva Reglay, Iron Lady of Elavia
A truly Machiavellian woman. There is no better way to describe the Iron Lady of Elavia. Simultaneously of a steely disposition and a silver tongue, Marquise Reglay is one of the, if not the finest of aristocratic minds in all Roawia, let alone Lenfald. The youngest of 9 siblings, and a girl to boot, the Marquise adroitly outmaneuvered her father, and all 8 of her siblings to place herself on her family's seat of power all without spilling a single drop of blood. Ruthlessly effective, and cunning to a fault, Marquise Reglay is well-known for always coming out on top in virtually every scenario she is placed in. Two weeks before a Loreesi army detachment reached Elavia during the War of Loreesi Aggression, all citizens of the region were ordered not to drink from any of the wells within a hundred miles of the city, instead being issued rations of water from alternative sources. Reportedly, the Loreesi Army detachment, over 5,000 souls, their horses, and elephants fell gravely ill and perished within a week, only a day's ride from the gates of Elavia. Not a single drop of Lenfel blood was spilled: furthermore, after the wellwater was inspected by Lenfel forces who had accused the Marquise of war crimes it was found to be quite drinkable and seemingly un-tampered with. Her involvement in the issue was never proven. During the Reign of Queen Galanir, Elavia was notably silent during the entire time the Queen held sway. A veritable dead zone, no one of the rest of Lenfald or of the Queen heard from Elavia until the Queen's power had loosened. Upon inspection of Elavia by an army sent to "liberate" the city, Elavia was found to be in perfect order, with not a single dragon to be found in the entire city. When asked about it, the Marquise easily deflected the questions and provided no solid answers. Marquise Reglay is also well-known for giving the aristocratic backing necessary to form the now-legendary mercenary company: The Emerald Wolves, in exchange for an undisclosed favor, and the permanent assignment of protecting Elavia with no less than 1/6 of their total forces, effectively granting the region with a large, self-maintaining standing army at no cost. It is unknown what her contribution to the upcoming high council may be, but whatever the outcome, the Iron Lady is certain to benefit. Grand Duke Ashleigh Stanton, The Peerless Blade "Steel runs deep within the Blood of the Stantons."- Grand Duke Ashleigh Stanton, The Peerless Blade.
The current head of the oldest noble families in Lenfald, Grand Duke Ashleigh Stanton of Bladefall is an expected face at the current Lenfel Grand Council. Trained from a young age to be an expert in swordplay, as is the wont of the Stanton line, Ashleigh proved to more than merely talented, proving a better swordsman than his teachers by the young age of 7. He would hone his skill through years of combat as an officer in the grand Army of Lenfald, earning the title: "The Peerless Blade" as he never once received so much as a scratch in battle. However, even his unsurpassed skills could not save his family from cruel fate. Losing his eldest son to war during the Crusade on the Magic Isles, Ashleigh would fall into a great depression, only roused back to the field of battle when Loreos invaded his homeland with a large army. Swearing vengeance on the betrayers of Loreos, whom he already had begun to blame for the death of his son, Ashleigh stormed to the fields of battle and participated with his unit in the Battle of Dragonsmouth. There, the opposing Loreesi Army was defeated after a harsh conflict. Though Ashleigh's own contributions to the battle would prove legendary; cutting his way over 200 yards through enemy lines and slaying one of the Loreesi generals, pulling him from his horse and relieving him of his head; Ashleigh's 2nd son was killed in the fighting, brought low by loreesi arrows. Returning home after the conflict, Ashleigh was distraught to see that Bladefall had been sacked by a Loreesi detachment that had gotten lost and wandered north, his older brother, then the lord of Bladefall, and his own wife and young daughter were all slain by the invaders. The Loreesi responsible were never brought to justice. As the last male heir to the Stanton family line, Ashleigh would then ascend to the seat of the Duchy of Bladefall. A military man through and through, Ashleigh had not been trained to be the head of the family, and thus was a poor duke for the first few years, being unfamiliar to a life not filled with conflict and war, though he eventually grew to be a respected and effective leader. During the reign of the Queen, Grand Duke Stanton was kept trapped in his house by a miniature seige, with over 100 soldiers of the Queen kept in constant guard circling his estate, as Stanton was considered too dangerous to engage, and unlikely to co-operate. Upon the failure of the Queen's reign and the subsequent rebellion, Stanton himself and three of his closest retainers broke the seige during cloak of night and killed every single soldier, to a man. Stanton would then go on to lead a Lenfel division during the assault on the Royal isle, and had to be forcibly restrained and pulled back from the lines of battle after the retreat was issued. A good man, but embittered through years of war and harsh losses, Grand Duke Stanton holds in his heart a great love for Lenfald, and would take any course of action to increase his country's standing. Greater still however, is his hatred of Loreos.

Here is my entry to LC18: Grey D. Ferrand Lumber mogul, Grey D. Ferrand is well known in Lenfald for his great wealth and shrewd, to the point of shady, business dealings. His contracts often extend outside of Lenfald, and some suspect that his love for wealth overrules his patriotism.
