i was wondering if there was interest, desire, or if it was already done, of more detailed maps of the lands of Roawia and the like?
i ask because i am looking to settle an area of land, and would very much enjoy mapping and working on changing the terrain via improvements by my character. i used to do many maps for my RPG group before our interest changed, and would love to do more, plus microscale landscape maps of the area that i want to settle in that will change over time.
would i be allowed to do this, and actually make a mark on the lands?

yeah i have both of those saved and was using those, but i don't know where anyone else considers home other than from their character intros and random mentions of cities. major battles, players homes, factories out in the middle of nowhere, are what i am interested in... because i work stuff like that into stories, builds ect.
plus my guy is building a small empire as his goals and such for the guild builds and to progress his story.
essentially what i am asking is can i make a localized area map that fits into Mitah's map but has a much larger scale, like a scale that would translate to actual studs? i was thinking 1:25 or 1:50 scale maps, where every 1 CM would be 25 or 50 studs in a build of mine. note that i would be using them for myself and sharing them, and would not request or require that they become legit, but with the hopes that other builders would use the maps to "visit" and enhance the area.
i was inspired by the outlaws microbuilds of the shade that the winner became the official shade microbuild. i also think it would be neat to have another builder make an item i drew on a map and be able to influence my characters story, as i feel we should be able to impact our characters progression through the world.
for example, my goal is to build a trade empire, and as an outlaw, i... operate "parallel" to the law sometimes. other characters might see this, or hear of it through word of mouth and make a build to come and visit me to aquire goods for their stores, empire, personal wars, ect. roleplay via PM that would be posted as story with the builds, such as negotiations for the goods, discussions of plans, divulging schemes and the like would be able to enhance both mine and the other players story, as we would essentially work together to move forward each of our characters stories, while in the same area of the world, using the same map, but different Free Builds for each of us to move the story. Their character might have a build showing them landing at a dock to meet, or meeting at a tavern or the like, where as my build might show the construction of goods, or the delivery of goods or the like to their area.
just a a thought, but it all starts to me with more detailed local area maps, not in cities, but character specific areas (casino oasis, players farms, players personal keep in the Garheim north, ect)

It's not on there as it was invented post-map making, but my character's closest thing to home is a midsized fishing town called Dunharris, located several miles west of Rothburg.

My town, Àr N-athair, is where the first of the daggerstone Peaks touch the ocean on the map. Yet I can't convert the distance to travel time. Perhaps a scale should be put on the map. Everyone could vote whether to use miles or kilometers, to keep distances easier to follow.

We agreed early on that this was a MOC-based game, not a map making one. The problem with detailed, to-scale maps is that it severely limits options for newcomers and sets finite boundaries on space. For now and the foreseeable future, we are sticking to only having the currently established major cities mapped. The rest of the towns that are created as people join up will be described very much like Brickninja has above. Vague enough to not preclude someone else from declaring their town to be in a similar location, but specific enough "several miles NW of", "a three days march east of", to be used by other players in story writing.

After revisiting the map, I had a few questions. Am I correct in thinking that the islands in the NW (Norhom and Merkorion) are part of Lenfald? Are Licaronia and Illacia independent of the four factions or are they part of Loreos? It seems like Val-Augustos is the home of the King's Council, but I'm not sure.
Is there a centralized thread where the regions and cities are described in greater detail, as well as the relationships between the factions and the King? (For example, where is the actual capitol located? Val-Augustos?) I'm working my way through the story thread, and that's proving helpful, but it's a lot to digest all at once.

Hey Snazzerton Those two islands appear to be icy Lenfald lands, (every Faction has a small sections of all different build types, minus desert) Licaronia and Illacia are part of Loreos Kings council you are on the wrong side of the map, Lions Head (which their crest is designed after) is an island on the East side of the map, the maps that are linked above in this thread are actually different than the official map on the Info thread located here. check out the map, download it and use that. that thread also has much useful information about each faction, but their faction thread on the main board is the place for more specifics about the factions. Hope that helps some. edit: oh and it is worth it to note, that in the VERY VERY TOP LEFT of the map is an island chain called TIL, that is owned by Garheim. Island of Lost Souls in the outlaws realm is generally considered non-inhabitable, very very few builds ever use it. As well, Karain's Rampart was described in the main story arc as being empty and well preserved, and is also generally not used in builds. Feel free to ask any questions, when i am bored at work i read... everything... i have read the entire story a few times now, in between my research articles to relax a little. if any of the kings council notes an error in one of my "judgement calls" please let me know, i rather know the correct lore than incorrectly make connections based on my readings. edit #2 this is also one of the most useful people to follow on the boards, Mitah made the maps and such, mucho talent. www.flickr.com/photos/66475636@N02/there are tons of great builders and such here as well, as you go, follow them on flickr, and steal all their ideas! you know... to improve on and such.

Well I would say the Outlaws own it except for the fact that in theory the don't even own the place where they all live, anyway I plan on use the Island in my story further on .

the reason island of lost souls is considered non-inhabitable is due to the amount of magical and evil creatures that live on it. it is clearly a outlaw island as it has no laws and is a dangerous dangerous place, but no one heads there, as anyone who is of the living doesnt really return, from what i gather. i personally view it as a type of zombie island, sail past, skellies and zombies, and dragon skeletons walking the beach aimlessly... clearly it is going to be worse than that, but yeah, not a fun place.
