I believe at this moment I'm leaning towards the side of the outlaws and giving them a boost to their ranks (when I can buy lego in the near future to start my collection)...but before I do I just want to make sure that I'm collecting minifigs that will actually fit into the order-elastic as things may or may not be- for instance, I was thinking of the most basic building blocks to the troops being a gathering of virtually any and all brown torsos in the castle lego kingdom. Brown elven torsos from the lord of the rings line and any mostly brown colored torsos are what I'm probably looking for. I'm aware that another faction holds green as a flag color, yet I feel that all earthy colors should probably be available to my forest/swamp dwelling rebels? Am I on the right track? Is it alright if there are green colors to the clothing of some of my soldiers? A great example is those elves because of the green colors on some of their clothing...
-there is mention of the dragon knights recently being assigned as a standard army for the outlaws-not sure if I'm interested in gathering too many of those at the moment, so id just like some guidance and confirmation to make sure that if I begin collecting a forest/swamp themed group heavily in browns and some green colors that I can band these figures together and give them a home in the forests and swamps of the outlaws...as I've mentioned I'm starting my collection from nothing and I don't want to buy items that I will not be allowed to use-or items that will not help my faction should I choose the outlaws...
-If my ideas for the outlaws are not acceptable, I am likely to join Loreos because I am rather found of legions of red with the ability to field lion knights. Is it, in any way, bad if I wanted to join Loreos? I'm stuck between the two factions and clearly very curious/a bit confused. At this point Loreos seems easier as far as army building and not doing anything wrong...Let me know your thoughts, and I'm sure I will come to a decision soon. Thanks for your time everyone...

I apologize for my excitement and all of my posts- just trying to both figure things out and work my way through the best faction to join.... In all reality, maybe I should just join Garheim because several of you have mentioned their need for a boost in troops/members. I suppose it would also be nice joining the underdog, or the group that I'm assuming is an underdog, instead of just joining a world power.

Outlaws primary color is black, but the secondary color is up to you, so in your case, if you wanted that to be green or dark green, that would be perfectly fine.
I think a band of outlaw elves would be an excellent way to start out your collection. Elves are a magical race, and are thus regarded with suspicion by the general human populace, making them the perfect candidates for a group of outcast outlaws.

Alright. I think it's probably best to join the ranks of those in the Garheim faction. Within the next 3-4 weeks I will be beginning my collection and hopefully I will be able to post a picture and sign up to Garheim ASAP within that time frame (I will just need to also remember how the posting of pictures works..) I'm excited to join a faction that could use some support! It should be fun being a member of Garheim gentlemen.

That actually reminds me of a question I have. In GoH, made up races and creatures are pretty much a go but from the LoR builds I've seen, it's a bit less so. Is there a rule about this? I have seen mention of standard Tolkienesque races like elves and dwarves, but GoH also allows for a crazy high fantasy variety as well. How does this work in LoR? Should I stick to the Tolkien Trio of elves, dwarves, and humans (with orcs etc considered "evil") or is there room for CHIMA-derived beastmen and the like?

Yeah, it's pretty much just the Tolkien trio, with the occasional wizard. LoR is a bit less fantasy than GoH.

Well, LoR would allow more than just the tolkien trio, but no one has really done any builds like that. So you could certainly include more than those basic fantasy races, I just wouldn't go crazy with it. CCG

I don't really mind either way. I just wanted to get it straight so I know what the boundaries for characters I might create. To be honest, I think that limiting the high fantasy in LoR is a nice way to differentiate it from GoH. When I first heard of either group, I wasn't sure why there were even two what with the similarities between the Guilds/Factions and the cross-pollination of high quality builders working both. Maybe somewhere there is a history lesson about how all of this came to be, but for now I'm basically still a neophyte marveling at all this creativity.
My character is going to be human so it doesn't affect that, just wanted to look into it for future reference. Is there a place where a discussion has been had about it so that I can read up?

From an "official" position, anything is really allowed, but the folks over here tend to be a little less fantasy-leaning than our friends over at GoH, which is evidenced by some of the gameplay rules we have in place regarding magic use. I'm not sure if it is "officially" stated anywhere, but the general rule is that magic, for reasons unknown to us, is strongest close to the "magical isle" in the SE part of the map. Magic on the mainland is exponentially weaker, to the point where attempting to cast a spell of any significance will leave the caster extremely depleted of energy and vulnerable for a time. This both serves to deter the magic-haters from being able to successfully siege and purge the magic isle, and also keeps the magic users from running rampant over their human oppressors. A Chima race would certainly be allowed, and I've often considered starting one up in the remote parts of northern Garheim, but haven't gotten around to fleshing that idea out yet. I hope that helps

Good to know. I have a lot of CHIMA so it's nice to know I can throw it out if I want to.

Should I wait to sign up for Garheim until I am able to post a picture of my starting forces? Also, once I have signed up am I able to go into Garheim's private section?...sorry for all of the questions everyone...is there an easy explanation for picture posting?(should I join a picture hosting place? Can I just quick post a smart phone picture when I get my orders in the next week or two).. Thanks as always for the feedback everyone.

brianofbrick06 good to hear you're joining the best faction in Roawia! As to an image hosting site, Flickr is your best bet. A large portion of the Lego fan community is on there, and its easy to use.

brianofbrick06 Glad you're joining the LoR! You should also get a Flickr account - most of us here are on the site, with links in our Merlin's Beard signatures (the bit underneath each post we make). I's easy to get into the online community there. There is also a decent Flickr app.
