LCXXV Entries - Part A
Name: Lord Staffen Ayliffe
Age: 61
Occupation: Chief Administrator for Toberg School of War
As a child Staffen excelled at all things abstract and impractical, much to the chagrin of his father, since Staffen was his first born son and heir and he wanted him trained in the art of war. But Staffen joined the Loreesi civil service as an admin clerk instead, and within 18 months had helped reform the working practices and improved the overall efficiency of the department.
In his current role he is responsible for feeding, housing and providing materials for the students who come to the Toberg School of War. This is no mean feat given the several thousand students in residence and the schools distance from the main food growing centres.
Name: Turgut the Canny
Age: 39
Occupation: Merchant (pirate!)
Turgut was born into a poor desert tribe family in the Leradda Desert. With little prospect for advancement locally, the ambitious Turgut travelled to Dalmunatha and joined the crew of a merchant ship. Serving there for 4 years, he eventually led a mutiny, killed the owner and fled to the Outlaw territory.
He made a name for himself with his excellent seamanship and avoidance of larger, well armed vessels. Always longing to return to his native Loreos, Turgut was pardoned by Prince Jarius and sent to the Western Isles in order to map the various bays and inlets so that merchant ships wouldn't founder in the uncharted waters.
Name: Klara Francini
Age: 30
Occupation: Astronomer and polymath
As the only child born to a desert tribe mother and a Loreesi father, Klara's childhood was relatively comfortable thanks to her father's position as a building inspector in the capital Dalmunatha. She devoted herself to study and her liberal minded parents nurtured her inquisitive nature.
Defying social expectations Klara applied to the university in Dalmunatha and was roundly rejected on the basis of her "delicate nature". However, things changed rapidly when she corrected an erroneous ongoing geometry lesson on her way out, causing the dean to rethink his opinion.
After completion of her degree Klara was kept on in the astronomy department as a lecturer, and has contributed to numerous Loreesi mathematical and physical discoveries. After his initial reservations, the dean of the university now describes her as "the only star you don't need a telescope to discover".
