Here's Part Two of my trilogy, and my third free build for April (sadly, I won't get any points for this ).
AN ATTEMPTED ALLIANCE: PART TWO
A LOUD JOURNEY
Mythrog sighed wearily. On the journey to the ruins of Fort Sinking Tree two things had become clear; that Loudre was even more annoying than he had thought, and that Loudre could not get enough of his own voice. Mythrog had made the unfortunate discovery on the way to the troll outpost with Carnox and Loudre, after he sent Endrol to kill the fortune-teller. They had met at the outpost, got the squad of Blood legion, and left for Fort Sinking Tree. Within two days we’re going to reach Fort Sinking Tree, then I will have my men attack and kill the queen’s soldiers, he thought. Mythrog had already made his decision, for he had heard only bad things about her, but mostly because he had heard upon arrival to the outpost they got the squad of Blood legion from, that two smaller troll outposts at Black Guards Impasse had been forcibly taken by queen’s soldiers for unknown reasons. Than I will send squads of men to take back those two outposts and….. his thoughts where interrupted by Loudre’s voice.
“Hey look what I found!!” he said, pointing to a bright yellow frog. “I bet that any good Lenfel would pay a lot to lick one of these, hum.. I bet I could get a good price on it.”
“They wouldn’t if they were smart, that has a poison on its skin strong enough to kill ten Loreesi war elephants.” Mythrog growled, hiding his smile, as Loudre jumped backwards away from the frog, and landed on his butt.
“Whew, that was a close one” he said picking him self up. “What’s up with the laughter?” He asked glaring at the Blood legion troops who weren’t even trying to hide it.
“Come on.” Mythrog said, ignoring the brown mud splattered on the back of Loudre’s pants. Within two minutes Loudre was talking again. “Hey look at those pink flowers, I didn’t know there was a shade that bright. Hey, was that movement over there?”
“No” Mythrog replied wearily.
Loudre immediately begin to talk again. “Say how old is the Sinking Basin? Cause’ it looks really old.”
“How should I know!? Could you please shut up?”
Loudre did….for a minute or two than begin again. “Hey are these mushrooms poisonous? Because I’m getting hungry.”
“Yes” Mythrog sighed, and than muttered under his breath “please eat them.”
“Hey, why is that tree..”
“Shut up!!!” Mythrog interrupted, starting to lose his temper.
Loudre was quiet for a few minutes, than started talking again. “Say how many edible plants live in these swamps? there seems to be a..”
“SHUT UP NOW!!!”
Loudre did, and this time made a record breaking three minutes before he started talking again. Mythrog glanced over his shoulder and saw the Blood legion troops exchanging small clinking bags. He smirked. Trolls would bet on any opportunity.
“…. Is that a deer I saw? We could go bag it for our dinner.” Loudre grew annoyed. “Hey Mythrog! We could have gotten that de..” He never got to finish what he was going to say, as he slipped on some mud and fell face-first on the ground, his silver horn flew out of his hand, and splashed down in the stagnant water nearby. Loudre scrambled to his feet and stared it the spot where the horn had sunk. “No!! Quick, Mythrog have one of your men dive for it, that horn is a symbol of my rank! I worked hard for that!!
“No. Can’t you just ask for a new one back at Galainir’s castle?”
“Well…yes, but this one is the second I’ve lost! It would be pretty embarrassing if I had to ask for another.”
“To bad” Mythrog said without remorse, “Because I’m not sending anyone down in there just for your horn. Its too dangerous, there’s quicksand, tangled roots and underwater plants, oh and I haven’t even mentioned the snakes and dangerous creatures that lurk in those murky waters.”
“But..” Loudre started to protest.
“You will get another from Galainir.” Mythrog said in a dangerously low voice. He took another step forward, and hefted his axes threateningly.
“Fine. I will get another from Galainir.” Loudre said in a small voice, taking a step back.
Mythrog smiled “Good.”
They continued their journey (though not in silence) and soon arrived at the crossroads that Endrol and the Blood legion troops had to take. They took it gratefully, and Mythrog, Carnox and Loudre continued on the original trail. Loudre’s talking grow worse, and he begin to pester Mythrog with useless questions.
“How soon will we reach Fort Stinking Tree? We should be there by now.”
“How should I know? We’re not going anywhere called ‘Fort Stinking Tree’, now we are going to Fort Sinking Tree, which we will reach in roughly an hour.” Loudre was silent, then begin to talk again.
Half way through that hour, Carnox suddenly announced that he was going to scout ahead, and dashed off. Mythrog watched him go longingly, trying (and failing) to tune out the sound of Loudre’s voice.
