Hello knights!
What are you thinking about raised baseplates?
Are you using them? In fact there are some nice printed plates especially for castle themed buildings and in my opinion sometimes it is really great to have a plate for building small things like a watch tower or something on it. Also they will safe you a LOT of pieces you would just have needed to build up the small terrain for the hill.
There are some negative points ofc!
Cause of the shapes its sometime difficult to integrate raised plates into a bigger terrain szene (u always need those 1x2x3 inverted slopes do convert to 90°)
Also in some eyes they are not looking so nice especially when your eyes have seen things like insane mountain buildings and stuff like this...then those plates look just....meh...
Another bad thing about them is that Lego is not producing them anymore so they will get a bit pricy nower days.
I like the blue ones especially for underwater szenes cause they add a nice flair of deep water (i used them for underwater diving szenes and also for some fishmen troops i was working on....maybe i will show them once they are updated with the new parts from the lego ninjago movie sets!).
Also the river-plates from the big islander-set are very nice.
I like specially the river plate from the western set (this one is not raised but it is like a streetplate for terrain).
So:
What do you guys think? Do you use those kind of plates? Are using any terrain based baseplates or are u just building up the terrain by your own?
I am really interested in your opinion about this!
Note: All pictures are shamelessly taken from Bricklink so credits go to them!
