How can I add an image to a comment or reply I am making? If you have the image URL, then just post it using the "Insert Image" icon in the toolbar. If the picture is from Flickr, click the arrow under the pic, pick BBCode from the drop down menu, and pick Medium for size. Then copy the text in the bar and paste in on Merlin's Beard, and your picture should show up. Hope this helps!

Cannons and muskets are not typically allowed in LoR. It is a medival fantasy setting. That being said, some say the dwarves closely guard the secret of gunpowder and steam technology, but never share their knowledge with the other races. Correct me if I'm wrong KC! -Drakk Ok, so sounds like LoR is in Late Antiquity/Early Middle Ages then. I'm drawing this conclusion from Mattiusxavier's photostream featuring Romanesque MoCs and that it was barely the 9th century when the Chinese invented it and only used in the 13th century thus far.

Since it is a fantasy world, we haven't tied it to any specific period in real-life history. We have decided that gunpowder is not permitted though. Thanks for asking.

I have a question, Do you have to include your character in Free-Builds? For some reason I thought you did, but couldn't find anything about it. I looked in the General Info thread, but didn't see anything. Edit: Never mind, Was scrolling through this thread and saw my question answered. Sorry for the post.

I'm still confused as to how I earn points for free builds, how I enter builds into contests/challenges, and how I earn points for my CIC.

Post any/all of your builds to your faction thread. Either myself or Excalibur will take care of updating your scores for you.

I have a couple questions.
What if I'm not a master builder like everybody else is here or if I don't have enough bricks to build a castle?
Also, what sort of guidelines does our character have to follow? Does what happens have to correspond with the continuity of other characters living in the same faction?
I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure out how I am supposed to start up my adventure here. I have a character worked out, although he in still trying to decide between Lenfald and Loreos due to things like pieces, style of building, environment and other things. What should i take into thought when trying to decide? I've seen splendid work my Mark of Falworth which is really what has inspired me, but I'm no where near the level of skill he is at building.
Also, if we choose a faction (i.e. Loreos) do we have to wear completely that colour (red and gold) or is there aloud to be things in separate colours (i.e. green ranger's cloak, brown pants, silver armour, yellow/gold highlights difference, etc.)?
I noticed that for a lot of people, they have a band of soldiers/rangers/followers that they travel with or armies that they lead. Is this a requirement? Or can my character be a lone adventurer or ranger who wanders throughout the kingdom in search of people in need of help or adventures to go on? Finally, is there a set lore or history/timeline of events/characters/places that are important to follow? Would I be able to have my character walk through a random city or meet a random nobleman or do they have to be specified people and not characters I add in on my own?
Sorry for the overwhelming amount of questions but I'm really new to this and its something I really want to do.

indianaevan have no worries about skill, with time, practice, inspiration, critique from the LEGO community, and collecting comes skill. Look at the back of just about anyone(including myself) in LoR' s Flickr stream and you'll see what I'm talking about. If you don't have enough bricks to build a castle(like me), start with a small watchtower or fortification, or a landscape. Your guy should basically follow the culture and events of the faction and be affected by what's going on in the Global Storyline. What you should take into thought when starting is whatever type of culture you're into. If you like Norse or Celtic culture, go Garheim(You should!!), if you like traditional Medieval Europe style, Lenfald, Loreos is Arabic and Mediterranean(Don't join them. They stink!(As you can see, a lot of the fun in LoR is friendly inter-faction trash talk), and the Outlaws are, well, Outlaws. So whatever you like and feel suited to is good. There's definitely nothing saying your dude has to wear his national colors all the time. Usually just soldiers and nobility will mostly wear their nation's colors when in formal dress. But in medieval times, you would have commoners, knights, adventurers, merchants, and more in all different colors. Just when making minifigs, generally try to consider the culture they're in. For instance, someone in Loreos wouldn't wear a big fur coat, probably a turban and a tunic, and an Outlaw probably wouldn't wear a fine, embroidered cloak. Also, no need for a band of men-at-arms. The cliche popular thing to do is have your guy be a knight or warrior, but there are no rules against farmers, tanners, millers, orphaned children, and less thought of positions. And the Global Storyline can be found in the Info and Sign-up forum. Make sure to read it and familiarize yourself with the goings on. Hope you enjoy this challenge! Can't wait to see what you build!

The community here is great and worth to join to chill with them. And don't worry, you improve as a builder as you go along. I've only been here a few months and I feel I've gotten a lot better since then. You can make castles out of anything! Just plain Grey bricks can do. If don't have much Gray, build a forest, (Lenfald ) Or maybe ( Wouldn't Recomend it.) a Desert. (Loreos) Use the bricks you have to create something awesome! Nope, in Loreos for Example there's knights, merchants, and Even a Cook! (Or was a cook.) Any faction has an unlimited amount of storylines. Anywhere, You can do it Luke Skywalker style, (Farmboy to Hero) Or start as a Hero and go to a farmer. It's your choice. What color of pieces do you have the most of? If you have Green, Brown, Dk. Green, Dk. Brown, Olive Green colors like that I'd say choose Lenfald. If you have Med. Dk. Flesh, Tan, Dk. Tan, Some palm tree leaves. Loreos would probably be your best option. And you don't have to always build in your faction, He can explore! Go to Garheim, Loreos, Lenfald, even the Magic Isles! Also research the Faction on their Faction Pages. That is a great way to choose a faction. Nope, Americans don't always where Red, White and Blue. A (Loreos) knight would most likely where a Red something, but if you wanted a ranger in Loreos with Dk. Brown that's perfectly fine. No, You don't have to have an army at your back all the time, or at all. An army is your choice. You can take out an Outlaw army with your army or just yourself it's your choice to have an army with you. History/Timeline yes. For characters no, you can add as many additional chacters to your story as needed. If you do want to use a Player's character I'd PM them first, to see if they can fit it into their story.

Basically every thing has been covered, I just felt the need to have a representative of Loreos add to this. Anyway Loreos has a large mix of cultures and building styles that range from Roman to Arabic to byzantine to European. You don't always need an army but for some GCs it might be better to have one if not a small band of troops. I don't think colors on your character as much as having the factions colors somewhere in the build whether its a flag or in the border, as long as the build clearly shows which faction you are from its fine.

I will say that it's nice if your character has some amount of faction colors, or at least does not have an abundance of another faction's colors, just so it's easy to identify which faction you belong to at a glance. (for example, my character doesn't wear any blue at the moment, but he is dressed in neutral brown so as not to be confused for a Lenfel, Loreesi or Outlaw). A Loreesi ranger could wear a brown hood and cape over his red garments, for example. There's no rule that says you can't wear green, but then that makes it a little less clear which faction you belong to for the casual observer.

Thanks for the info everybody. I'm interested in either joining either the Lenfalds or outlaws at this point with Loreos still a possibility. My character's story (WIP) is that he washes up on shore as a rugged outlaw type of character with no memories at all of his previous life. After getting to view Rowia through a new perspective and instinctively saving an innocent man from dying (will be explained later) He believes it's a second chance and sets out on trying to help the weak and fight off evil in his own way, while also trying to discover as much about his secretive and unknown past as he can. But the few living people that know of his past might threaten to expose all of the dark and deadly skeletons in his closet. How does this sound? Does anybody have any tips on how best to introduce your character into the world of Rowia?

The most frequent way to start your character off is to give a short brief of his past story. But with your character having amnesia it might not be the best way to go. Maybe like him waking up? Have him waking up on the shores and wondering what the heck is going on? Might be a good start for this type of character. Though in the end it's up to you.
