This build started as a forestmen entry for AK's mini-castle competition, but it ended up turning into this as I got a bit carried away... Forestmen's Border Ambush by andhe :-), on Flickr My idea was to try and use 'classic/retro' pieces and make a build that looked like it could have existed in the forestmen line. The treehouse hideout opens up so you can hide figures or loot inside. Forestmen's Border Ambush Interior by andhe :-), on Flickr Play features round the front include a 'forest border crossing' that can be put down to stop any unsuspecting travellers (in this case, a knight perhaps returning from the crusades). Forestmen's Border Ambush Feature by andhe :-), on Flickr I didn't check every piece for chronological accuracy (I know for example the cloth cape isn't period accurate... but it just looks cooler ), the idea was to recreate the general 'feel' of those late 80's sets. I hope that I achieved that, and this experiment has got my mind racing as to further ideas that I could try. The 'set' has about 80 pieces, 2 forestmen, 1 crusader knight and 1 horse and would probably fit in the £/$10-15 price bracket.

Very cool! Could easily be an official set from that era. I think you accomplished what you set out to do (well, other than meet the contest requirements, haha)

"You must bring me... a shrubbery!"
Nice little build - definitely looks like something from that era; I think I had a similar one with a wizard, but it was in the 90's Black Knights line.

I like this build. I think my only critiques from the standpoint of emulating the old forestmen line would be to add some asymmetry, and to find a way to incorporate a few more leaf pieces (and maybe a few more of the inverted half arch pieces). Still, those are pretty nitpicky criticisms. Nice little build.
