Hey everyone, and welcome to the second Monthly Micro Challenge! For this month's challenge, you'll make a mini-castle, themed to match a faction of your choice! This was inspired by a LEGO Ideas project I saw, and we're going to see if people can expand on his idea a bit. Here is the basic template you should go off of: Notice how the mini-castle has elements of the famous "Yellow Castle" that it is based on: Your challenge:1) Choose a medieval/castle/fantasy faction (can be any castle faction, LOTR-based, or a faction from a CMF figure - liberal interpretations such as using space factions is not allowed this time). 2) Design a mini-castle based on the above example, adding details that fit with the sets that were released corresponding to that faction. Look for design elements in the official sets that inspire you! (this will obviously be tough with the CMF figs. For these, use your imagination!) Your mini-castle should have the same footprint and general features as the above template (ie, all entries should fit on a 6x6 plate, be 14 bricks tall, with a 6x6 parapet at the top. The rest is up to you!). 3) Include a minifigure from that faction, posed similarly as above. The idea is that everyone's entries should look like they belong in the same "family". 4) Winner will be selected by a panel of judges (or just me, haha) and the prize is TBD. Contest closes at the end of the month, 5/31/17.

One note, obviously you don't have to include a special tile with "history of Lego Castle", etc printed on it! 😊

So just curious, do entries have to be kinda plain and simplistic? Is this like an ascetic challenge? Or can we build crazy extravagant tiny castles?

So just curious, do entries have to be kinda plain and simplistic? Is this like an ascetic challenge? Or can we build crazy extravagant tiny castles? I would think that that should reflect the style and era of the faction. That is, if you're trying to replicate one of the factions from the 80's, you're probably going to keep things a bit blockier because that was the style of the period. If you're going for something more recent and/or inventing a signature look for a CMF, I think you could allow yourself more latitude. (This is just my interpretation; AK_Brickster should definitely weigh in here.)

This is my kind of size build! Will try and get something in for this... even if it ends up late.

Sean is exactly correct. Your build should have relatively the same total dimensions as the example, but the styling should match the sets from the era you select.
If you want to build for the Dragon Masters faction, go look at some Dragon Masters sets and try to find some design elements that you can fit into your build, while still holding true to the template.
Entries should fit on a 6x6 plate, be 14 bricks tall, with a 6x6 parapet at the top. The rest is up to you!

Mini Black Falcon Castle (the original 1984 'Knight's Castle' version)
Awesome challenge AK! They are all going to look great together! Thanks Mitah for the motivation to build something today - seeing your entry in my flickr stream this morning made me realise I needed to build something for this! So In-between housework and frantic winter prep gardening, I managed to put this together as a tribute to my first and favourite castle. In case you've forgotten what the original looked like, here it is in all it's (slightly dusty) glory! Now someone needs to to the newer version with the yellow Tudor style section and blue flags...

So my younger brother (we'll call him a builder in training) was inspired by my sister and I building towers for this contest so he built one as well and was wondering if I could post it for him. Since he's not a member his build wouldn't really be part of the contest he would just like it to be posted and I have my own entry for the contest.

I'm putting the finishing touches on my next Hero's Guild build (when I have time - juggling two landscaping jobs and a rental home renovation job takes up most of it) then I ought to have an entry
