So I am trying to decide what kind of a watchtower/border outpost I want to build. I was inspired a bit by something that I saw in a Lego ideas book that gave me an idea for a small outpost When I started building the base though I wasn't too happy with results as it seemed off balance So then I started thinking about making it more like a tower/stronghold and came up with this (btw, not sure if I want pull the door out closer to the front wall). Oh yeah, I want to make each corner stand out like the front ones do
The idea is to put it in a border town as a place to collect taxes and be a base of border patrol operation. Btw, this is not meant as a castle to withstand a siege - more like a small border outpost - Excalibur

It's a pretty cool bit of subject material. I like the direction you're taking it also.

so you're liking the squarish tower look I assume? I want to go someplace in the direction of an old townhall in Krakow. It was a self contained citadel like structure with a corner tower.

Well, I really like the asymmetrical look of the original subject material, but I also think the direction you're going looks good as well.

Both are neat. If you go with something asymetrical, you can always fit something else into that space: a tree, barrels, scaffolding, a building that is perched on the side of the stone structure (like a later addition that isn't the most stable) or even a lean-to shed roof

Ludzik, I think I agree with Sir Daren, while I like them both the asymetrical one speaks to me a little more. And just because I know what this is for watch your size, it might be a challenge for this to fit on your planned base.

Hmmm.. don't think that the size should be that much of an issue as the overall footprint once squared off would be the same. Btw, I'm not sure if the window layouts will look like that, but they corner, 4, support, 4, support 4, corner will probably stay.

I think I prefer the non-square version. Just attracts my eye a little more with the door being off-centre and such.

The non square version (the more I think about it) would fit as a house in a row of houses or something like that. As a standalone citadel like structure I'm more and more sold on the square design Now I'm wondering how to finish the "alcoves". Another thought I had was to maybe shrink it a hair

Did a little bit more work on it. My 3 year old helped me I know that I will have to order some bricks Also doing some experimental stuff with windows (First pic - all gray surroundings). Have some thoughts about how to make it look better but not fully there yet... for now concentrating more on the structure itself. ~

Looking good, though I can't say I'm a fan of the dark gray around the bottom half of the windows.

Yeah, I'm experimenting how to deal with windows. I'm considering making the window panels all dark grey.... Here's an updated design idea - though I already know that I have to redo the window in to top most section as they don't follow the same style and seem way out of place...

That looks pretty cool! I like where you're going with the design.

I think a change in profile width would benefit the design. A roof overhang and/or widening or narrowing the second floor by a stud or two, just to break up the stark profile you currently have going.
And I still don't care for the dark gray around the windows, haha.
