I was hoping people could help out with putting together a general parts list for Castles, medieval inspired buildings and medieval ships. I can seperate them into different posts if it would make it easier to answer.

Do you prefer 1x3 or something similar or do you prefer 2x2 or something similar for standard building construction?

I just reread it. What usually the best length for bricks to use? Probably under 1x4 unless you have a large open space to cover?

I prefer 1x4 or smaller (larger is sometimes needed though), mainly because those pieces are more diverse and also because I prefer the look of the seams. Long bricks look less like stones than short ones.
The best thing though is to just acquire a lot of variety in grays, bleys, tans, browns, and other neutral/nature colors.

And let's not forget the contrast/supportive colors to your base building colors to break out the monotony.
For example light grey and light lime green (or whatever color it is called) 1x1 bricks. Makes it look like discoloration on a wall...
BTW, long bricks every so often are good for reinforcements - so while I use primarily 4x1, 3x1, 2x1 and 1x1 bricks I use 6x, 8x, 10x and longer ones from time to time to make the walls rigid.

I will respond to this with a more in depth list tomorrow. I for the most part use nothing longer than 1x3, with most being stacking of 2x1 plates, bricks, etc.
