Hey guys, I know it is the end if summer and such. But it is "Dead Quiet" here. What's everyone else up to? It's work and sorting here for me. As well as painting miniatures for table top gaming... What are you all up to, let's start a discussion

Lots of work, getting ready for college to start and a few personal things. That and writing stuff to get into the mood for LoR.

Work, weddings, applications, and minifig building for me! Super busy, which seems to be the theme for me this summer.

The LEGO community has a high turnover rate, it seems like. Lots of new faces, that come and go. Many veterans that stay, but poke in and out from time to time. Also, I wouldn't just consider this forum to be the only "quiet" forum. www.classic-castle.com has been quiet for a long time now. Really, inspite of the CCC, the forum has been pretty well quiet since LCC left to become LoR here. I think there are a lot of reasons for castle forums being quiet right now: -no dedicated castle line. The last one we had was only 1 wave, didn't appeal to a lot of fans (although it was my favorite yet), and was nestled between LOTR and Nexo Knights. I am afraid it will be some time before we see another dedicated castle line. Castle is a shrinking theme in the LEGO multiverse. -this is a busy time for many builders. It's amazing to see how many active castle builders are building for both BFVA or BrickCon. The two are right on top of each other, and builders focus a lot on them. -the decline of LoR. Everyone here knows LoR has been on the decline for some time. Since it was the main reason for the creation of merlins-beard, that will add to the "quietness" around here. -real life. I think this is the main thing. With no dedicated castle line, the castle community is essentially rehashing and recreating from lines long ago. This can only go on for so long, without getting stagnant. When it starts getting stagnant, people focus more of real life. For example, 2 years ago, when the community was thriving pretty well, I would have tabled many real life things (movies with friends, tabletop gaming with buddies) to build in the newest global challenge along with everyone else. Now that many have stopped building for LoR, no matter how cool the events are (and they are spectacular), it's not as exciting to build for them. So I am more inclined to participate in RL things as opposed to building. Maybe these are some insights. Altogether, I think there are MANY factors into why this forum (among other castle forums) are quiet as of late.

I still think that, as Schmidt pointed out, this forum is busier than some of the other castle forums out there. We have a really great core of "veteran" members, and there are excited new people joining weekly, so while the daily discussions might have died down a bit, I think we still have a fair amount of activity going on, relatively-speaking. Also, everyone who feels like things are going stagnant has the ability to help change that by initiating discussions themselves. Don't wait for someone else to start a thread or make a comment to get things going. Feel free to be the catalyst for new content yourself! (don't spam the forum with a dozen new threads though, haha) For example, I started a couple of tutorials on minifigs and photography to try to build up the content on the site. Feel free to contribute to the index of techniques or start something entirely new

Yes I agree. We still seem to be a bit busier here then CC. I know I still lurk, and will comment if I see something of intrest there. But for the most part I just lurk. As for here it seems that we are still busy. But it has died down a bit. LOR still seems to have a good following, I know alot of us are just busy, which is why the builds are down. But even just the back and forth banter seems quiet, which I found a bit odd. Anyways, I hope to update a couple of my threads and mabye do some building, weather for here or just to build. My work space is clear for the most part. I am just in the middle of the never ending sort Plus I would contribute more to techniques if I felt I was worthy to post something however when it comes to building g I am just an avarage Emmit...

Feel free to share links to other's techniques if you stumble across anything good. The idea is to build a database of "current" techniques, as new stuff is being invented all the time, and older databases are missing a lot of the newer techniques.

I would agree, I think we are more active than CC at the moment, which is arguably the largest DEDICATED LEGO castle forum.
That says something.
I lurk on here almost everyday. I'd say many others do as well. RL has just been so insane the last year (partially why I had to step down from FL in LoR).
Things will pick back up. I love this forum. Even if LoR stopped for whatever reason, I'd hope this forum would stay open so we could all chat. LEGO isn't about the games (which are super fun), it's about the awesome people!

Actually I feel like the forum is busier ATM than it has been in a while. There was a time earlier in the year when you could go almost a week without a thread being updated, now I sometimes struggle to keep up! We've recently seen a revival of the brawling thread, thought long dead, plus the addition of several new and quite active members. So I'm actually cautiously optimistic right now!

Real life can get in the way, which i why I won't be able to build (or buy) with Lego as much as I would like. And getting inspired can be really important as well; both great new storylines help, and new lego themes help (I am slowly adding to my Lenfeld forces via bricklink every now and then, budget allowing). As for a new castle theme, it does look like we won't have one for a while, due to Nexo Knights claiming that position (mostly). When the Knights Kingdom series (2004-2006) came out, it was then a year or two after it ended that they released a new castle theme. And since Nexo Knights is continuing next year, the wait time continues. Although if they could do more Kingdom themed castle series, that would be awesome!
I just want to say that it is really cool to see some of the veteran's whose builds I like come back and posting more after a lack of builds time. And it can even be fun to go on Flickr and go through pictures of people's characters and builds and storylines starting prior to the death of the king all the way to the present time, even if I have seen them before. It helps me to get re-inspired and want to build (always a bad thing when I am 80 miles away from my Lego collection and need to be focusing on homework).
Plus tis summertime in North America, and there is always the lure of the sunshine and summer activities to pull people like me out of my basement room of Lego...

I come and visit the site once I'm done browsing the 40k/30k and Age of Sigmar rumor blogs. I've been really busy with football as of late, but I was really happy that I could get two freebuilds in before school started. I have set my eyes on finishing higschool with passing grades, so there will not be enough time for me to build with my awesome legos. I do still collect when I can but it gets hard when you are lacking funds. Once school ends and the summer comes around, I think I'll be able to come back and build more. Also I want to start making stop-motions at some point, so if any of you guys wanna voice act I'll let you know...I hope the community comes back soon because these next GC's look like a lot of fun. ☺ Also we won our first game last night 43-20 On another not it would be nice if you guys could check out the first chapter of this novella, I guess, I wrote for my Engrish class last school year. Also if you guys could comment on it as many of you, hopefully, have good writing and narrating skills. *note: comments might not be seen right away as this is connected to my school account and not my normal gmail*
