Not even sure how to title this thread... What I'm wondering about is folk's motivation (?)as to why they participate in some of the MB and other Lego group 'activities'. What makes me wonder? Well Parts Jambalaya as well as the minifigs Jambalaya here on MB and the parts Jambalaya and the Xmas fig exchange on CC. To me the biggest part (my motivation) is seeing what others grab. What they put in in exchange and seeing it move at some sort of a pace. I know life events take precedent over Jambalaya's and such activities but seeing folks drop off for extended time period, having to nearly beg for updates ad to what's going on with the box makes me wonder why people sign up? And I'm not even talking about posting pictures.....
So I'm wondering is it a sign of times? Lack of personal responsibility? Just plain wondering.... Cause all it takes for folks to post up or pm is "got to but I'm busy and will not be able to do anything with it till xx/yy" or something like that.... To me communication is key but on the other hand I am encountering such behaviour in my professional life as folks who are on the projects with me are at times extremely bad with providing updates...
On the other other hand (third?) - are slme folks only after stuff for themselves and they don't care about this activity as group activity? This would explain this behaviour to a degree as once it reaches them they no longer care cause they're 'part' is done?

I thought I'd jump it before this becomes too much of a moan-fest.
I'll agree that there has been a number of issues with some of the recent 'community activities' (jambalayas, drafts etc) and it's an issue I've brought up with the admins.
Ultimately it's getting the right balance between structure, accountability and over-bearing rule-making. But personal responsibility plays a big part.

This one can be a hard oneto answer. I know my motivation is the posabilty of getting some classic lego parts that I may not already have. I also like seeing things people takeout and add. Having been a participant in most of the acctivities here, I know that I do it for fun and to share. On that note, I also know I have held things up a couple times for a short while due to life and when the box hits me. So shipping out I havent always been on top of things as I could be. As Ludzik and I have spoken about many time communication is key in "online communitys". And there is always a risk when running or participating in these activities as to the accountiabilty of others. That said there does need to be some structure, and a way to hold participants accountable. I know I have been turned off participateing if certine members whom I have had some not so good dealings with are participateing. I do believe there should also be an area in the buy sell trade forum specificly for the drafts, jambalayas, etc... and I feel that mabye there should be a lead moderator looking over all the dealings weather they participate or not, but someone who has the ability to colect personal email, phone, etc... so that if there is a lad they can get in touch with the person whom is holding things up. I know I have helped many here pokeing people when I could to move things along, and I know there are others whom have done the same when I have hosted parts drafts and it is helpful and apericated. Anyeays I supose the biggest issue I have seen can be with the TFOL's and not being responsable for communication or being timely about maters, or loseing things, etc... That is what I dont understand. We are all human and we all screw up from time to time. But if you just own up to it and communicate alot of things can be taken care if Just my thoughts...
