The swivel section looks a similar idea to the stand a lot of the knock-off brand packaged figs come with. I don't know if in turn they have also pinched the idea from somewhere (probably, seeing that most of the counterfeit figs are copied from either existing figs and parts or fans decals etc).
Is there a reason that it's hexagonal? I didn't read the kickstarter fully.
I'm not quite sure what purpose it solves that is better than the existing minifig stand, unless it has some use in tabletop gaming? I remember seeing some game that uses hexagonal based figures.
I won't be jumping on this one.

I won't be either. They are neat but I don't have any need for them. They didn't manage to convince me that my plain old Lego stands were insufficient and they complain that other brands' stands cost 'upwards of a dollar each' when theirs are at least as much. I just bought one of the grey 48x48 baseplates to make one of AK's minifig shelves and am much happier with my value there.

I'm not sure why I would need my minifig stand to be able to attach to a baseplate. If I'm using a baseplate, why would I need a stand?
I'm perfectly happy with my minifig shelf and/or the standard CMF bases, though I wish those came in more colors. White would be great.

I'm still convinced that these hex-bases are aimed at lego tabletop gaming. D&D, Heroscape and the like. Which is why I'm surprised they're not being more openly pitched as such? I'm sure there must be gamers that already uses custom lego figures for their gaming, so imagine these bases would be perfect for that usage. But not sure if they have much use outside of that.

The hex bases are the exact size that the table top games use, so yeah, they are targeted at that crowd. and i understand why, but as you mentioned andhe they are not doing a great job at pushing to that crowd. i was a person that used lego figs as a table top gamer, you get a new weapon you can change the look of your character, it was loverly,
