Hey all, this thread is for all LCCers who are going to BFVA 2014. So far, we have seven members going, one member attending but not building, and one member not going, but sending something: Sir Haymar Glen (me) General Mythrog
Sir Caelan Munro
Lord Mercat
SSchmidt
ZacharyIsLazy
Bricknave Rifirofi General JJ We have decided to build Maldrake the Silent's fortress, under assault by armies from the three factions, plus some "good" Outlaws will be joining in the attack. We have not yet decided how to divide the display up, but we're working on it now. IF anyone else is going to BFVA 2014, and wants to participate, just chime in, and let me know!

I want to emphasize that point, we know of several folks who are attending but may not know about this collab. Please join in, even if it's just to add minifigs to our layout, which could be as much as an attack with 1200 minifigs! So long as Schmidt shows up! Come and join the fun, I do think we need contributions of 32x32 baseplates/modules. I have at least 9 I can contribute.

Just checked out the modules on Flickr, and the landscape sections I can definitely do. I assume there will be more than just a one plate layer job, especially if you contribute more than one baseplate. If I bring a 10 module block I assume as long as the edges of my modules line up with the other members modules I'll be ok to landscape as we deem acceptable? For the walls, I envisioned a circular wall, or an octagonal one. The straight sections could be easily turned at the correct angle once they reach a guard tower, to easily make an octagon. Also, I just went through some BF pics looking for a certain build, and came across some tagged pics. When I (hopefully) meet everybody I'll probably be dwarfed by most. I'm 5'6 so at least I might meet Gary at eye level.

I guess I have little to compare to since I've only met Mark and Steven, who are giants at 6'3 and 6'4.

Checking in over here to show that I have made the jump for this topic! Can do on the modules. I can do 12, maybe more, but for right now I can commit to a 12 module block. The castle looks great! I still think it would likely be better if you guys did the fortress yourselves. I do however, agree with Zach that an octagonal shape would probably be the coolest, but as you guys are up for putting the castle together, I am cool with whatever you come up with!

How does the organizing of the baseplates go. Does each person mark their baseplates and figs?

Drakk, this will take place in the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, VA July 30-Aug 3. All relevant information can be found here: www.brickfair.com/afol/ You are more than welcome to join us if you can make it! On a different note, as I am assuming we are going to have some kind of border- how are we going to work that out? What is the border going to look like? I think we should also make sure to have the sigils/shield/flag/etc of each of the factions embedded into the border on the side facing the public. EDIT- also, are we using tan, or dark tan as the base color? On the regular landscape build it seems to be dark tan, and on the one with the castle it seems to be regular tan?

Unfortunately, Merlin's Beard doesn't have the multiple quote function, , so I can't reply to what each of you said. That said, I will try to answer everything as best I can without quotes. Zach, there will definitely be more than one layer of plates on some of the modules, that way the terrain varies in places, and doesn't look uniform. If you can do a 10 module block, that's great. As for landscaping, I actually planned out the surrounding terrain in a pretty terrible sketch, that I'll try to upload tomorrow. It also has what I thought would be a pretty cool design for the castle (and yes, it's octagon in shape). Don't expect anything great, though. My drawing skills are as bad as Schmidt's. Schmidt, Gettysburg is definitely worth a visit if you have the time! I'd skip the White House though, I've been, and there isn't a lot to see. I'd visit Mannassas (did I spell that right?) Battlefield instead. It's very beautiful, and only takes one day. I think it's worth a visit, if you so choose. Lord Mercat, 12 modules would be awesome, if you can manage it. Thanks! If that's the case, can I have a vote then? All in favor of my brother and I building the castle, and the rest of you building terrain modules, please let me know. Oh, and thank you for answering Drakk's question, the help is appreciated. Drakk, since Lord Mercat answered your question, I don't need to. ALL, labeling your baseplates is mandatory, otherwise we won't be able to separate them out at cleanup time. Just put your initials on the bottom of the plate. Don't bother labeling your figs, it would be too hard anyway. I mean, Schmidt has 550 of the little guys! How could you label all of them? No, rather, your figs will go on your terrain modules, or specified parts of the castle. We will be doing a border, probably black, as it looks best when showcasing a MOC. Borders will be built on modules around the perimeter of the display. I will try to build an example border module, for those of you who choose to build a border section. Dark tan is the base color, for both castle and terrain modules. The crappy lighting must have made it look tan. Sorry. Cheers, Joshua

This might be a possibility for me. Would it be acceptable for the collaboration to have a seashore?

This might be a possibility for me. Would it be acceptable for the collaboration to have a seashore? Awesome! It would be really cool to have the infamous Captain Claw and his crew at this battle! I'm not sure about the seashore, Sir Haymar is leading this project, so he'll know whether or not it would fit in with the landscape. Since it takes place in kind of a swampy terrain though, I'm sure you may be able to sail your ship up through the marshes, if a more normal seashore isn't viable.

I plan on being there! I've already planned to take a week of vacation off so I can enjoy the entire show (and possibly hit up Gettysburg and the White House while I am out there Tourism in Northern VA: Anyone needing any information for tourism around here, I can happily provide. We've pretty much done everything you can do around DC, with just a few small exceptions (we have got to get to that Spy Museum one day, maybe on Father's Day this year...). And Schmidt, actually you can't just walk into the White House, it's a process where you have to write ahead of time, wait for a response, get an appointment, etc. And like Joshua says...hey at least you get to see where Lincoln lie in state after he was assassinated. I do highly recommend both Gettysburg Battlefield (2 hour drive) and Manassas Battlefield (quite literally just a 15 minute drive). Labeling Plates/Modules: A couple options. If you don't like using permanent ink on the bottom, use masking tape and write on that with a Sharpee. That way it can be pulled off if needs be for those planning to sell your Lego some day... Joshua building the castle: I vote NO as I'm the one paying for it!!!! Just kidding, we'll just spend his college money on it.... Height: Sorry to disappoint you Zach Bean, but I'm actually 5'10.5". I just look short in that photo because I'm with two Giant Ericksons, Stuart who is really a giant, and Joshua, who will likely be 6'0" by the time Brickfair happens (it's what happens when you feed your children...)

This might be a possibility for me. Would it be acceptable for the collaboration to have a seashore? Awesome! I hope you'll be able to contribute your ship, and any figs you have. I had planned to have a large bog/swamp area, in the lower left-hand corner of the display. Can your ship make it through there? If so, it would be cool to have it perhaps beached, with Captain Claw and his crew leading a counter attack against the "bad" outlaws attacking the good guy army. How sure are you that you'll be there? Because I'll need to know, so I can add you to the list.

I could probably make a swampy 32x32 to go with my ship.
