I'd like to participate! I think The Hobbit Attack on Laketown would be a good set but I wouldn't mind doing a bigger set like battle of Five Armies or Dol Guldur Battle.

Just as a point of note, as people are signing up, keep in mind that you'll be expected to be extremely active during the draft. If everyone waits 1-2 days (or more) before making their picks, the event ends up taking forever. If you can pick within 12 to 24 hours of your turn coming up, that is the best way to move things along.
If you can't commit to that level of involvement, then it's probably best to let other people participate instead, for the benefit of the group.

Also as a side note. To those who do participate, if you know you will be unable to pick for a couple days please send a list of you top picks to the host, so that the host can pick for you. We understand that real life happens but this will also move the draft along. Please understand that with a larger set there will be along the lines of 400+ lots to chose from. It will take about 2 months to complete a large draft, picking only once a day. However I feel that our goal should be to pick twice a day an we should be done in 5-6 weeks.

I'm interested. But I want to recommend the Creator Mountian Hut. It's about $40 with 550 pieces. Even thought it's not castle it seems to have some useful pieces.

Maybe participants should always have "on file" a list of dozen next pics with either the draft runner or another trusted participant? Once the list is down to 4 entries they have to resubmit the list again? This way if they go MIA for 24 hours that person makes a pic for them from the list? I have to be honest that while I understand that this is not a priority, with today's technology I am somewhat amazed that we went at times such long time between pics. I know I have been guilty as well (though to my excuse the flickr applet didn't show new picks so I thought we were stalled). In either case I think that these would be a lot more fun if things were moving faster... at some point it becomes a sad chore when you check to see if we are finally moving again Here's some stats from the last draft. There were 8 participants (two of those participants were picking for 2 other people so in reality it was only 6 folks that were making the posts). 340 parts and the total "timing" was as follows: picks per day 6.54 turns per day 0.82 (turn is one full cycle of picking - all 8 participants making their pick) duration 52 days Thoughts?

WOW. Even with almost 5 1/2 picks per day it still took 2 months? That is crazy.
I will say that drafting two sets at once dramatically increases the number of lots you have to deal with. I think it's much better to limit online drafts to 1 set for this reason. 62 days seems unreasonably long considering you were going at a pretty good clip.

Honestly with 340 lots, it went well IMHO, and 62 days? Where did you get that number? First pick was feb7 pm and final pick was on March 31 pm. So by my count only 52 days were acctually drafting. I would check twice a day as would my wife. So techniquly 7 people were activly drafting. Any ways yes a faster clip would have been nice but I think it went well with people on holiday and dealing with phone/ tablet problems. And Carick the mountain hut looks intresting, and alot more useful then the Pirate sets Ludzik, as to length between picks? We are all human with real life involved so between business trips, meetings, vacation, etc.. I think it still went well, at least alot better then others we have been involved in. One way to aleveate some of the timing is if we could all be on at a set time everyday and do multiple picks at once. This would only work if people were able, for instance say 7:30 pm central time. We could possiably draft till 8pm and get in many picks. However the most difficult thing with doing this is logistics with everyones schedual. Just a thought

Let's keep the discussion here general about which set and who is drafting and we can go over specifics once the final list is... well, finalized

So far top choices are Elves #1, laketown #2, Pirates #3. No one is for the Chima set, jordan could you edit first post to reflect set choices with the mountain hut as well? Also add the pirates solider fort outpost combo. It would make more sence to draft those 2 sets as one. Better value.

I will make the correction tp reflect appropriate days when I'm near a computer. -edit - was able to get the stats updated on my phone.

Would it be possible to attach a poll to the thread to make picking the set easier.

I figire once we narrow down the choices we could post a poll. Ak_brickster will have to add it though. Good Idea again Carrick

Would Mirkwood Elf Army be worth considering? It may not be of interest to anyone else since it is not a new set (for all I know you guys may have even drafted it before) but it has a decent price per piece especially for including 6 figs and a warg and almost all of the parts are useful. I find the Elves pieces really intriguing but it stings that the only fig parts would be a few hair pieces.

Yes the last draft I hosted was the elf army last year the elf hideaway is a very good set, but yes the bad part about the figs is just some hair pieces, and no real figure parts. This brings up if we wanted to do an LOR/ castle type set we could combine the laketown set with witch king battle Also my wife an I agree with carrick that the mountian hut is a great parts pack and would be a great draft set, a little more so then even the elves set, as if we get from target or walmart, 505 pcs for $29.99, comes to about $.059 per piece which is AWESOME, and all the parts would be useable as well
