So I recently finished getting set up in a new job and was looking to getting back into building some mocs and doing some custom figures again. Just when I get some free time I decided to take my motorcycle down to applebees for some half price appetizers, on the way home a car pulled out in front of me causing me to crash. This was back on January 9th, I had whats called an open book pelvis break(look it up, its not fun) broken elbow, 8 cracked ribs, and a compressed T8 vertebrae. I was in a hospital till feb 11th and still cant put weight down on my right leg. In short this makes building lego difficult as i have to access lots of seperate bins to build. Anyone else have a major injury that kept them from their Lego? and did you figure a way around the problem to still build?

Yow, sorry for your accident, I will pray for you to get better.
Are your bins on rollers? Maybe someone could roll them in arm's reach?

Wow! Quite a crash! Glad you're "annimortal"!! I haven't ever had an injury that serious, so I can't provide any tips there, but I hope you recover quickly, and hopefully you can find a work around. Have you considered using a digital design program like LDD until you're able to work with physical bricks again?

haha AK that actually made me laugh, animmortal indeed I tried to LDD idea but i just cant get creative unless i got the actual pieces in my hand. Lego the rolling bin Idea would be great if I had the money for them or even the space to roll them around. I think im just gonna have to work on some customs till I can move around on my own two legs again. Thanks for all the well wishes.

Hey! i actually have many major injuries, i could list em all, but in short, my back always hurts, it hurts to breath, it hurts to walk, it hurts to think, my eyes are fuzzy when anything is happening, and my doctor says i am one concussion away from never waking up. i have had more surgeries than most people, and have had more broken bones than most people know exist, if we count full on shattered bones that were repaired with metal. what i did, and sometimes still do when my pain is too much is go and grab two or three bins of lego (all mine is sorted) and sit on the couch and toss on a movie. i then work with those bins to build something neat. sometimes it is a bunch of transparent 1x1 square plates that i use to build a stained glass mosaic for a build, or cheese slopes and headlight bricks that i build trees and landscapes out of. point is, grab something small and build something small and creative. i would love to issue you a challenge (for only you to do... i am busy ) grab three of your bins and a few small green plates (5-8 or so) and build a small scene of a farmer using only the bricks you have in front of you. i dont care what type of farmer it is, grain, cattle, space, frogs, cats, dogs, lead farmer, miner, what ever. but that is the goal if you choose to accept it.

Wow, animmortal, I'm really sorry to hear that. Hope you have a swift recovery. pyro5050 You can't be serious... What happened? used to be a semi serious athlete. was a top contending goaltender in hockey, a provincial level mountain biker, a not so good snow boarder, and tree planted/firefighted. also walked into a few bar fights, got hit with a boat crank and various other injuries.

Hi Stephen, I was thinking of you last week, it has been a while since you posted anything on flickr, now I know why: Applebee's is not good for your health. I hope you will get well soon! What do the doctors say, how long will it take to be back at 100%? As for your question, I haven't had an injury, but if you move with your family (wife and 2 kids) then it will keep you from building, that's for sure. After 7 months I might finally start to build again, my lego space is arranged, I "only" need to sort all those boxes full of loose bricks... "How much progress have you made?" I hear you asking, not very much, thank you kindly. As for building: it is not easy, I tried to build in the living room once so I packed some bricks into a bin. Then I realized that I need some more bricks. I fetched them. Needed more. Fetched them. Most of the time of "building" I was taking the stairs and eventually got tired and let it go. Cheers Adam

Cheers Adam what you describe is exactly why i do my challenge, force yourself to build a small thing, or a section of a larger build. personally i ran into a bit of a builders block last week, i could not figure my boat out... so i took my minifig bin, weapons bin, torso cover(armours capes, ect) and helmets downstairs, and made two armies.

Thanks everyone!
Adam im told I have atleast 6 more months atleast till im at a 100 percent but im improving faster than they expected, I started walking with a cane yesterday. I have another surgery in a month to remove an internal support bar they screwed in. Hoping the surgery doesnt set me back any.
Pyro I dont know if ill get time to take you up on your challenge but Ill give it a shot!
