Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've done this... I decided I wanted to build a coastal fortress before I considered how far (not very) my trans-blue pieces would get me. That, plus the tendency of my vision for a project to grow larger as I build, has resulted in far more fortress than coast. I am currently waiting on a Bricklink order and more importantly a desk before I begin to fill out the left side which was originally not going to be there. Meanwhile, I thought I might as well do some interior work only to come to the sad conclusion that I have no idea what to put in it. (I never do interiors.) Do any of you fine folk have suggestions for what to put on the lower floor or for any changes I might make to the exterior? Flickr link.

Hey str0ngbad! Great fortress! The link to your Flickr seems to be broken though, or maybe the pics are private. Can you fix and re-post the link?

You can get a man out of LEGO but you can't get LEGO out of a man. This is quite the project! How big are you envisioning this fortress? Will there be anything behind it for depth, or is that as far back as the MOC will go?

Thanks AK! The link works now. Indeed Schmidt. I have been gone a long time but I have missed it often. I finally just threw out some furniture, pulled the bricks from beneath my bed and started building on the carpet. As far as the size thing... I'd like to go further back, and further out to the right, and higher.... but my stash of light bley is dwindling rapidly. Once I have a bricklink order in I should be able to take the walls back some but probably not enough to really give it depth.

Here is what I've managed to add this week. There are only minor changes to the front profile I posted last time but I'm particularly curious whether you guys feel like the banners add or take away from the build. Unfortunately, dark topaz is the closest thing to blue that this part is made in right now. The bulk of my progress has been on a wall and gate that will go back from the right corner. Perhaps giving it some of that depth that Schmidt was asking about. I'm at a bit of a loss on how to add a bridge or whatnot for murder holes without breaking the aesthetic I am going for. I covet any constructive criticism or suggestions you may have even more than normal since this will be my first build to be displayed in public. My Flickr

In looking at this I really like the banners. They add a manner of detail to it that would be hard to replicate.
You've really come along with this, I'm very interested in seeing how big it gets!

This is coming along nicely I usually tend to stay away from large builds as they make me jealous of the things I'd like to build but don't have the pieces for, but this one caught my attention I really like the window/mosaic parts on the right wall section. As for a gate, I think the aesthetic of a drawbridge would look nice, spanning some spur of mountains on the coast.

A drawbridge might require some changes to the front gate that won't be as aesthetically pleasing. I think a couple of massive plate-built wooden doors for the gate would be really nice, and would add some color contrast to the mainly gray color palette you've got going on.

So it's been a while but I'm back to chipping away at this thing. I removed the castle until I get all of the rockwork and supports up on the left side. I'm really happy with the new rockwork so far but the downside of that is how much it contrasts with the old stuff. Even in this crappy photo you can see a significant diifference between the two halves. I'm debating whether or not to buy more slopes and rebuild the entire first half but I wanted it to be more sheer... What do you guys think? Also, there is no way I can build this thing with more depth (meaning the wall/gate I have built) on this kind of foundation. I just don't have the bley for it. So once this build is finished, I may preserve the castle part to build onto it further on a more modest base.

The castle I'm working on only has a small (8-10 brick tall) rockwork base around it, due to just how fast the dark bley slopes get used up. Later on, I will expand the base with a bit more landscape.
For yours, I really like the left section better (at least I think I do, though it's hard to compare the two since the right side has so much flora all over it. I think some sort of happy medium between the two would be optimal. Lots of random angles like the left side, with a few plants to add color, like the right side.

Yeah, the left side will get the plant treatment eventually. I'm just torn up over the thought of stripping that right side all the way down and starting over. On the bright side, if I NEED more slopes a Bricklink order is totally justified.

I would honestly keep both sides. I see nothing wrong in doing that. I think they both look great and that the inconsistency adds a sort of realism to them.

keep both, make a big ass wave crashing into the new side, explains the difference as there is a slight "stone break" there.
