Battle Continued...
6. Sir Robyn roared in retaliation, slashing his sword frantically at the dragon (2 is rolled. Dragon loses 2 bravery). The dragon roared in return, but his attack merely grazed the knight’s shield (1 is rolled. Sir Robyn loses 1 health. 12 remaining).7. Bandi saw the opportunity for a mighty swing as the dragon was distracted, and lunged again at the dragon’s skull, landing a blow with a thunderous crack (7 is rolled. Dragon loses 7 strength. 15 remaining). Though a mighty blow, unfortunately for the barbarian the dragon was made of sterner stuff, and Bandi had yet again put himself with snapping distance. The dragon turned his head sharply, his teeth crunching onto the misplaced warrior (9 rolled. Bandi loses 9 health... None remaining. Bandi dies...)
8. Ardy shrieked again, having now seen two of his comrades struck down. He furiously thrust his sword at the dragon’s belly, landing an accurate strike between the beast’s ribs (7 rolled. Dragon loses 7 cunning... 17 remaining). The mighty dragon roared in response to the stabbing pain between his iron scales, and snapped out at Ardy, but the nimble halfling was too quick and the beast merely tore his cloak (1 rolled. Ardy loses 1 health... 11 remaining)9. Grindel, seeing his chance to attack while the dragon was distracted, cast a spell of confusion hoping to bemuse the dragon (5 rolled. Dragon loses 5 magic... 16 remaining). The mighty guardian shook his head as his mind was clouded by the wizards spell. He lashed out indiscriminately, and by chance caught the wizard off-guard (3 rolled. Grindel loses 3 health... 15 remaining).10. Sir Robyn, having recovered from the dragon’s previous attack, steeled himself and let out a mighty road as he swung his broadsword at the dragon’s neck. It was a perfect strike (5 rolled. Dragon loses 5 bravery... 17 remaining). The dragon turned in retaliation but only managed to graze the brave knight (1 rolled. Sir Robyn loses 1 health... 11 remaining).
11. With only the three of the adventurers remaining, it was Ardy who seized his chance for another attack. Another thrust of his sword struck home, and the dragon roared in pain once again (4 rolled. Dragon loses 4 cunning... 13 remaining). The dragon snapped and lashed out at the Halfling thief, but Ardy proved to swift yet again for the lumbering beast (2 rolled. Ardy loses 2 health... 9 remaining).12. Grindel cast yet another spell, but this one fell short, unable to pierce the dragon’s scaly skin (1 rolled. Dragon loses 1 magic... 15 remaining). The beast swung his long neck across the room in a rage, knocking the wizard to the floor and crashing into one of the chamber’s supporting pillars. The room shuddered and shook (2 rolled. Grindel loses 2 health...13 remaining).
13. Sir Robyn continued his assault on the dragon as bricks and mortar rained down from the now crumbling ceiling. He held his shield above his head to protect himself from the falling debris as he struck at the dragon’s limbs (2 rolled. Dragon loses 2 bravery... 15 remaining). The dragon snapped and snarled at the knight in retaliation (1 rolled. Sir Robyn loses 1 health.... 10 remaining).14. Ardy ducked and darted under the dragon’s body, thrusting and striking his sword where he could (2 rolled. Dragon loses 2 cunning... 11 remaining). The dragon lunged at the nimble thief, but this time Ardy was too slow, and the Halfling found himself dashed against one of the crumbling stone pillars (5 rolled. Ardy loses 5 health... 4 health remaining).15. Seeing the Halfling crumple to the ground, and two of his comrades already dead, Grindel summoned a particularly aggressive spell, and the dragon shrieked and squealed as it burned into his skin (7 rolled. Dragon loses 7 magic... 8 remaining). The dragon lashed out in pain at the wizard, but was unable to connect (1 rolled. Grindel loses 1 health... 12 remaining).
To be continued...

The treasure chamber began to shudder and shake as the supporting pillars, now heavily damaged by the battle, began to crumble under the weight of the castle above...
“Let’s finish this and get out of here!” yelled Sir Robyn to his two remaining adventurers. Grindel looked at him gravely “ I fear it may already be too late!” the wizard replied, his voice barely heard over the noise of the collapsing ceiling. “Yikes!!” screamed Ardy.
16. Sir Robyn threw himself into another attack (3 rolled. Dragon loses 3 bravery... 12 remaining). The dragon, though heavily wounded, continued its violent retaliation (1 rolled. Sir Robyn loses 1 health... 9 remaining).
17. Ardy, encouraged by the thought of escape, launched himself again at the dragon (5 rolled. Dragon loses 5 cunning... 6 remaining), but escape would not be in his fortune. The dragon lashed out at the plucky thief, his claws ripping into the Halfling’s flesh... (5 rolled. Ardy loses 5 health... none remaining). The Halfling cried out in agony as his battered body dropped to the floor, bleeding heavily (Ardy dies...).
18. Now only the Knight and the wizard remained. Sir Robyn, began to become convinced of his fate, but had no intention of going out without a fight. Gripping his sword tightly he ran at the mighty beast, his sword plunging into the dragons neck. The dragon roared in pain, his wings and tail thrashing around the chamber (5 rolled. Dragon loses 5 bravery... 8 remaining). Sir Robyn rose up into the air, still gripping tightly to the sword plunged into the dragons neck, as the beast attempted to shake him off, but the Knight wouldn’t budge (1 rolled. Sir Robyn loses 1 health... 8 remaining). “Do it now! Do it now Grindel!” Sir Robyn shouted down to his solitary companion.
19. Grindel saw his opportunity as the dragon reared up, Sir Robyn desperately clinging to the beast’s neck. The dragon fully exposed it’s chest, and Grindel began to cast a spell. It had been a long time since he had last used this certain spell, as the power required last time had almost killed him. The air around him began to spark and crackle as the magical energy grew until eventually, after what seemed like an age, but had probably only been a few seconds, a large bolt of yellow lightning shot out of the wizards wand, igniting the dragons exposed chest (8 rolled. Dragon loses 8 magic... none remaining).
The dragon’s ‘eye’, the much coveted stone in the centre of its forehead, and source of its magical power, erupted into a blaze of light, then fizzled to nothing. “The eye! The dragon’s magic has been defeated! Now finish the beast!” Grindel yelled to Sir Robyn, who was still clinging to the sword he had stuck in the dragon’s neck. (The dragon’s magic is defeated. Grindel gets +50 reward).
20. Sir Robyn clambered up the dragon’s neck and drove his sword further into the beast’s flesh (3 rolled. Dragon loses 3 bravery... 5 remaining). The dragon roared and crashed his head into another stone column, crushing the knight (6 rolled. Sir Robyn loses 6 health... 2 remaining).
The knight though now dazed, continued to bravely cling onto his sword that was his only anchor point as the dragon continued to swing and thrash his serpentine body around the treasure chamber. “This whole room is going to collapse! Leave the eye!” Grindel shouted up to his comrade. But Sir Robyn was so close. With one hand on his sword, his other hand could almost reach the giant stone in the dragon’s forehead. “Leave it!” implored the wizard, now standing in a small opening in the brickwork, providing them with a means of escape. But the draw of the dragon’s eye kept Sir Robyn reaching for the stone.
The dragon writhed and thrashed around the room, destroying columns and crumbling walls, all while the valiant knight clung desperately to the dragon’s skull. If he could only prise the stone from its setting then untold riches and splendour would lay before him.
21. Sir Robyn removed his sword and struck at the ‘dragon’s eye’ (5 rolled. Dragon loses 5 bravery... none remaining). The dragon screamed an ear-piercing scream and swung it’s head, catapulting the knight, and the stone towards a corner of the room (The dragon’s bravery is defeated. Sir Robyn gets +40 reward). It so happened that this was the exact corner where Grindel was standing in an opening in the wall, and the catapulted knight bowled into the diminutive wizard causing them to both to tumble through the gap. “Come on you fool! Let’s get out of here before it comes crashing down around us!” said the wizard to the knight.
Grindel and Sir Robyn fled through the crumbling Castle of Fortaan, the screams and shrieks of the dragon getting more and more distant as their wearied legs led them further and further away from the crumbling treasure chamber.
They reached the decaying drawbridge sooner than they had expected, but took no time in crossing it and disappearing into the surrounding forest. The wizard was the first to stop, his shorter legs tiring quicker. The knight was more than happy to pause for a while, his heavy armour weighing him down. They both crumpled at the bottom of a large tree, breathing heavily. The distant shrieks of the dragon still seemed to echo in their ears. Sir Robyn was the first to speak “Well we did it, and we survived!”... “By the skin of our teeth may I add” said Grindel, almost letting out a smirk. “Ay, and do you think it was worth it?” Sir Robyn postulated. “I would say so... I would say so wouldn’t you” replied the wizard, grinning ear to ear as he held up a large shimmering amber stone, the Dragon’s Eye!
Grindel escapes with 12 health and 50 gold +50 reward = 220 (120+60+50) Robyn has 2 health and 90 gold +40 reward = 150 (20+90+40)

The tavern had now been closed for a number of hours, and only the bearded old man and his few gathered listeners remained. The cold morning’s first light had begun to gleam through the tavern’s windows.
“Ha! What a load of cronk!” scoffed one of the patrons, “Who’s ever heard of Castle Fortaan, let alone the dragon’s eye?” The old man laughed and shook his head “You youngsters, you only believe what you can see, taste or touch. Castle Fortaan crumbled years ago, its secrets now lost to the forces of nature. But the dragon’s eye was real enough. And is still out there somewhere... but that’s enough for now. It’s late, or should I say early, and this old man needs some rest...”.
The group began to disperse and exit the tavern into the crisp morning air. The gangly patron, touched the old man on his arm “If it’s true, whatever happened to the dragon’s eye?” the old man chuckled, “Some things my friend... are best left a mystery”. Held pulled a ragged cloak around his shoulders and began to hobble down the street.
Inside the tavern it was now empty, save for a few dirty tankards left behind on a table in the corner of the room. The barmaid wearily placed them onto a tray on the bar, then crossed the room to stoke the fire. She poked the embers, the shimmering amber light glinting and glimmering, creating shadows of stories long forgotten on the empty walls...
