As some of you may know I have been in the sorting pit for the last month. I still haven't dug out yet, but I need to build something But every time I look at the bench and stare at a blank baseplate, nothing.... I jump on the net to lurk on here and other places, finding inspireation from Cesbrick, Derfel, an Legonardo; go back to the bench and... nothing So yea, I have been suffering from this for going on 2 years now... It really does suck. That's part of my reasoning for doing the challenges to push me to build. but again I get to the bench and nota. I try to build an official set, but now only see parts to sort. An Well I could do this... But. So who else wants to vent My daughter is going to a friends house after school an My wife is at a meeting for the next couple hours so I am going to go try to do something here shortly. so we shall see what happens.

build something small quirky, funny or build a monster. or write a story, i find if i have a builders block it helps to move my characters story forward until i find something that i just want to see in RL... and then i build it. i hit a block a week ago when it comes to building, i am just spinning my tires. i am thinking i will try and make a little hound monster or something, or i might just make a little diorama. i found my most recent problem is comparing to those great builds you mentioned, and the feeling i will never be at that level, but i have said it before, the most important thing any of us can do is just build. when ever i get really really stuck, i go back and build a classic micro race car i designed when i was like 8 years old... three pieces, can make an entire fleet of racers and run em around the house crashing into things... that totally gets my creative mind going too... i am currently stuck on a boat... i want to make a few ships but am just stuck... so tonight, right when i get home, i am going to make a small Freebuild, transporting materials to my characters new build site, as that is where his story is right now. and i will be taking pictures of the "october build" that i keep telling myself in my head is not done, but i am determined to keep it simple-ish and not complex at all... but i know your pain. also, on the sorting side of things. i found tossing on a movie, and sitting down and getting 1 small bucket of it done really motivates. recruit your kid, bribe with candy.

Yea, i throw on pandora and just go sorting. One problem I have though is lower back pain and numbness in leg . I need a new chair, lol. As to recruiting the kid, yea no. She sort all right, right into her bucket of legos I am working on my october build but have parts in 2 different states that may or may not get here in time. Parts from jordan should be here, but the other draft I am involved in who knows... so yea back to the drawing board

so that lower back pain and leg numbness is something i can relate to, i have tons of damage to my body and such from sports so my disks in my back are buggerd and such. what i do is set up shop around my couch, i bought some larger bins that i spread around the living room, and i have my PAB cups all over the couch beside me, i fill a small bucket and then sort into the PAB cups or into a smaller 'to sort' bin if i have used all the PAB cups, then when i have cleared as much of the small bucket as i can, i stand and pour the PAB cups into their respective larger containers. it takes me twice as long to sort, but i dont break myself. pain in the knees, feet, back, neck, wrist just isnt worth it anymore... this is also why when i tear apart my creations i try to sort as much as i can right then and there, and once i fill my little bucket now, i sort it right away instead of allowing myself to be lazy. i am planning on making a PAB cup holder when on vacation to make sorting easier. i have designs for my PAB spinner stand as well drawn up.

Yea Docs don't really know whats going on and I haven't had the money for the MRI. They did an X-ray said everything look ok, other then degenerative arthritis starting in my lower back. But due to numb and tingle in my leg my wife thinks it may be sciatica. So yea fun. about 10 years ago I slipped on ice leaving work and landed on my lower back centered on the B-pillar in my car. I have bad flair ups that usually last a couple months then go away for a few months.
Back on topic. I sorted a little more before being kicked out of my work space till this evening. My area is set up in our bedroom and my wife works graveyards so she has to get some sleep. I didn't get anything built shocker there, lol, oh well... We shall see what I can do if anything tonight.

When I have Builder's Block (BB), I build figs. Then, you can come up with a story for them and build something related to that

Then, you can come up with a story for them and build something related to that which is a great idea. i build something that moves, a water wheel, a cart, something... it helps get my brain looking outside the final appearance and looking at the way it moves and getting the right movement. then i start creating new stuff around it as i go... i got some amazing inspiration from my vacation to sandiego as well, so travel, museums and the like will help as well... i looked at some stuff that was made hundreds of years ago and thought, "how can i make these lego"

I find the biggest reason behind BB is lack of inspiration to build, at least for me. That is one of the reasons I have enjoyed building with the LOR so much! Every time I start to get BB I just think of my character and imagine what need to happen next and, I am building again in no time.
As with all things, keep at it!

I agree with Brickmadness, I kind of have the opposite of BB right now, I have a really fun story arc going on for my character and I'm churning out a build a day. Just think of a new storyline development for your character, and try to make it happen, that's my advice.

Hey guys, BB still in place. It is mainly a lack of motivation due to tiredness from work, lower back pain, and general dipression.
I have however done a little on the tavern to finish it off a bit more so It can be displayed. Also still have my micro shade going. Trying to get my cottage finished but am stumped on the upper floor right now. I hope to do a little building the next few nights, but it really depends on if my mood improves. Oh well its normal anymore...

Oh well its normal anymore... a 6 pack of coke, bag of carrots and a good set of tunes can help with that... also, explore a bum pillow, i am serious, they helped me so much with my back pain after i fell off a cliff tree planting.
