I think this is coming along very nicely Schmidt, the large size of the castle is really starting to show! The Keep looks great and by tiling the floor and adding brown windows it has broken up some of the grayness. I love it! I also like how you offset the windows so that they have a little windowsill. Do you think that you will do a hatch/trapdoor over the opening on the top of the Keep to prevent water to get inside? Also the one gray axle brick looks a bit out of place. Keep (no pun intended) up the awesome work!
Happy Building, Sir Valiant~

Are you going to add landscape? ~RBC Absolutely. This will actually be in a "swampy" environment when it is all said and done. I still have a long road ahead of me. I am currently awaiting three bricklink orders right now, with all my new tiles, cheese slopes, and a few other pieces. Now that I am waiting for them, and the majority of the keep is done, my outline is this.
Building order: -Gatehouse -Stable -Smithy -a couple of vendor shacks -landscaping -base
And finally end with photography.
SpearralSquid - Thanks for the advice Ian, I plan on implementing some of those suggestions (assuming I don't burn out in the process )
@ Sir Valiant - I agree that the axle brick looks out of place. It will be a quick fix There will also be a hatch for top of the tower too, so that individuals can get in and out. I plan on making it full functional and opening, much like the lower chapel.

This looks great! I'm enjoying the WIP aspect; it's like we're there building with you. Great realism with the details you feature; the little chapel looks excellent.

Based on the designs and overall layout as well as the recent uploads in Flickr...I must admit this will look like a nice castle when done. Can't wait to see where its going.

Thanks guys, for all of your comments and criticism. I won't have any time to invest in this project tomorrow, but I would like to be able to devote 6-8 hours on it Saturday and possibly even get most of it completed (I will have some down time since my wife and son will be gone all day). I have all the inhabitants built, and a surrounding landscape in mind as well. I look forward to keep updating this.
Something that is neat about this castle, as that I can actually pick it up, anywhere, and carry it as it is. It is quite sturdy. I will probably keep it together for quite some time, as I plan on transporting it 8 hours away to Brickfair, VA this year.

When you do destroy it, will you make a video of pushing it off a table, like Siercon and Coral? That would so cool if you played it in slo mo and backwards.

Great work so far Schmidt! Funny, I've been wanting to build an "actual Castle" myself recently and have been acquiring the means to do such a build, although I am quite jealous of your vast collection of masonry bricks I really like your addition of complete interiors which are looking great, and the stained glass window is a nice touch of color. I think it's smart to keep that as simple 1x1 tiles rather than cheese slopes for transportation and abuse if brought to convention. Sure cheese slope glass can be sturdy but this way you'll be able to show off that cool chapel interior . Looking forward to more!

I like those wooden windows. Really adds some much-needed color contrast and the way you've protruded them from the face of the wall breaks up the big, flat face you had previously.

Sorry if I repeat something that has already been said. Also thanks for posting this - I really like to follow these WIP build develop. The first thing I notice is the texture of all the walls. I think it is good that you have only varied the color with dark bley and sand green. But I also think the walls could be improved if you used a little less different types of bricks in your texture. For example you used both grill bricks, log bricks, brick bricks, normal flat bricks and SNOT tiles for dark bley variations. I think you should use less different types of brick variations, maybe only one per color? The second thing is the very flat walls. As you write yourself, they could use some depth. Your windows helps a lot (BTW the offset one is very good), but the wall could use some arches or columns, like this one: I know that my suggestions come a little late in your process, and most of them are not worth to change in this build. But I hope they are useful for later builds.

Thanks Bentoft.
I am glad you commented on the variety of bricks. In retrospect, I feel like I used too many kinds of bricks as well, so to see some confirmation on that matter is encouraging.
At this point there is not a terrible amount I can do for the lack of depth in the walls. I have considered adding a small tower in the middle of the left wall for some form of depth. I am currently building a small (and I mean very small) gatehouse above the main gate.
My latest work involves building a stable (which feature tan and reddish brown) and also a little guard shack which is dark brown and reddish brown. I am struggling immensely with the roofs though. I would appreciate any insight on building a traditional roof in the shape of an upside down V, such as this symbol ^

I like all the buildings inside that you've got planned, especially the stable. It sounds like there will be a lot of busy action, which is perfect.

Schmidt have you tried hinge pieces attached to plates?? This is just something I threw together in about 5 min. You can do anything up to 180 - 90 degrees Cant go any tighter then 90 with this method however. Hope this helps.
