Sounds awesome, Pyro! What do you guys think, in general, of custom items, just out of interest? As much as I appreciate (many) custom items, whether homemade or 'official' like BrickArms, BrickForge, etc., I still can't bring myself to using them, most of the time at least! I guess I'm destined to be purist for life...I probably have an exception with capes.

Erathor Pridenar I feel the same way as you do, except, I don't mind cutting pieces to make my own.

I guess I'm destined to be purist for life...I probably have an exception with capes. its a odd thing, being a purist. when it comes to the actual plastic pieces i tend to be a purist, if i am rebuilding an old set, i lean towards purist as well, but anything fabric i would replace with a replica in a second, as they wear fast. the LEGO sails are also not big enough or in the proper shape for the ships i build, i mean, they dont even have a proper staysail, and i only know of two jib sails, but they are the exact same cut, LEGO focuses on mainsails. Top sails, and Foresails... which is great, but a good ship has many types... heck even the LOTR pirate ship has three sails, is more of a "junk" ship, but no square sails and no rigging.... what the devil... this is where i run into problems, i am a "purist" (read: Eccentric) in three worlds... i love official LEGO and want to use only that. i also Love detail, and want to add more and more, but LEGO does not have the decal selection i want I also love "accuracy in a fantasy setting that does not need accuracy" so i research, research, research, and then modify to fit into a fantasy realm. it allows my mind to think realisticly and imagine at the same time. like if i wanted to, i could actually build the items i create from lego in the real world. i'm a special person... but then i look at the Custom ABS pieces, i love the look, i would buy a ton (have plans to) but i dont know if i would bring myself to use them... i probably would not buy the weapons and such, more the food stuff and civilian life enhancers, as all the decals i am making, and all the rest are for things LEGO ignores, and LEGO does not ignore war. but we will see how i do with my decals, because i have only done my own string and such so far, and that does not bother me.

Ian, cutting is the biggest sin for a purist! I'd use fabrics/string, but not much else.

I personally will use Brickarms and the like, but only if they fill a niche Lego doesn't. Like realistic modern weapons, or combat vests and helmets.

I am really excited to see your stuff, pyro!
Ieuan, I am 100% purist when it comes to the actual bricks. For minifigs, I am open to a lot more, and am OK using custom decals and cloth products. I've even cut/trimmed a few accessories to better suit my purposes, such as trimming a hood so that it could be used with a beard, or snipping the gold beads off of the "Black Beard" beard from POTC to make it less frilly for castle use. Finally, I am just starting to experiment with paint and markers to convert flesh figs to yellow figs, since I love elves but refuse to use flesh parts because I prefer the traditional yellow.
As for third party weapons and accessories, I have a few, but tend to only use ones that really seem to fit the official LEGO aesthetic well. I don't want them to look out of place next to my officially-clad troops.

AK_Brickster same, I've never cut or painted a brick(besides writing my name on the bottom of a baseplate, which I don't think counts), but with minifig accessories I cut, but won't get any 3rd parties except possibly capes.

I am purist for the most part. Like jordan when it comes to accesories on mini figs I am some what open. I also love the elves but want more in yellow. I am not a fleshy fan as to me there jaundice in the lego relm. I am also am dableing with paint, nail polish to be exact, to color my elf hair. My wife on the other hand has no problems painting stuff... I am still not sold. Also when it comes to capes and skirts I am open to third party products. I also am looking into decaling as I have my LOR sigil created but no way to print it. Would also like to see what you come up with pyro

Finally, I am just starting to experiment with paint and markers to convert flesh figs to yellow figs, since I love elves but refuse to use flesh parts because I prefer the traditional yellow. Apparently you can use a "Sharpie" brand yellow permanent marker to get slightly darker yellow on the fleshies, i have seen it online but never tried it myself... also, if i get my decals working the way i think i can, i would be willing to make LOR decals for cost of materials and shipping for people, unless they want them applied to the item. i created a Merchant Marines Sailor Arm Tattoo tonight, and am about to start on a full back tattoo for a sailor minfig. simple stuff as i am not a art person, but on a minifig i figure it should look decent. so, so far, i have 8 different wood patterns, a beggar torso, a single tattoo desgin of an anchor, and a 2x2 map print, tonight, while the wife is sleeping beside me, i am thinking i will make a few more wood patterns to give good diversity, a 1x1 round rock pattern for the little grey stud covers, and might start of a sailor torso/side/back piece.

i was thinking of that, but i dont have any 2x2 round tiles in brown, i was also going to do a cobblestone pattern on 2x2 round greys, but i lack those as well.... maybe after my trip in a few weeks i will have a ton and be able to justify creating some. my goal is to figure out the max amount of decals i can put on one page with as little waste as possible. i would personally love to have a few bins of decal pieces as i just love the look of them. edit: i made a quick 2x2 tree trunk decal, i am going to touch it up some, but i figure that most of the decals make for brown tile pieces will be only in black whereas the rest will be colours and such 2X2 Tree trunk Watermark by Pyro5050, on Flickr

hmmmm i just did a quick one with the tans/browns from the official LEGO colour guide i have been using, i dont think it looks good at all, on the computer... but i will save it and print at least one to see how it looks on the piece, because if it looks bad, i can remove it. 2X2 Tree trunk3 - watermark by Pyro5050, on Flickr also, i discovered that i used the wrong dimensions for my previous mock-up so they all got increased by 2mm x2mm so they each gained an extra 0.6sq/cm of space, which is actually a ton, when a 2x2 square tile has only 2.56 sq/cm of space.
