Hello everyone and welcome to the First Merlin's Beard Challenge. This challenge will be focusing on medieval style building techniques. If this is popular I will continue doing these challenges with a different theme each time. The purpose for this challenge is to get us building and try to do something maybe we wouldn't normally do. The theme for October, will be a Fall scene Rules are very basic, The minimum foot print for this build is 16 x 16, overhang is unlimited. Max foot print will be 48 x 48. One thing I do ask is that the base is no more then 48 studs in length or 48 studs in depth. I don't want someone to interpret with an irregular base that so long as the build is no more the a maximum of 2304 studs that it would be okay. no more then 48 studs wide or deep please. Irregular base is okay so long as it fits those specs. Hopefully this will allow for some creative scenes. As an example you can do a forest ambush scene with fall colors, or show a small cottage preparing for winter, etc... If you are in LOR, you may use the build as a free build, but this build may NOT be used for local challenges, global challenges, etc... Start date will be Oct. 1st and will end on the 31st If interested please sign up here! After Oct 1 I will start a thread for submissions. Please keep all chatter in this thread. More details to come so stay tuned Update; Just a reminder this months challenge WILL NOT have a Prize attached. This is for fun and to challenge us to get outside the box as it were of LOR. Also as a side note, NONE of the builds here for this Challenge can be used in the "Colossal Castle Contest" or CCC on Classic castle. It is against the rules of the contest, and is counter productive to this challenge.

I may barely have any autumn colored foliage, but some entry is better than none! Count me in, (to quote Pit from Smash Bros Brawl) "The fight is on!"

"but this build may NOT be used for local challanges, global challanges, etc..."
Does "etc..." count brawls?

"but this build may NOT be used for local challanges, global challanges, etc..." Does "etc..." count brawls? Brawls may be included, since brawls generally are open to any medieval building category. For example, the brawl could be "best fall build - rules per MB monthly challenge". As you know, brawls don't count for points though. Using these entries as free builds is the only way to earl LoR points for participating in this monthly challenge.

AKA: this monthyl challange stuff is just to keep our creative juices flowing, in a friendly non-combative method and allowing minimal direction with open creation.

Exactly, Pyro. I believe Curt may occasionally provide prizes but it's generally just to give you some inspiration if you've run out of things to build, and will also be a good way to learn new techniques from other builders who are all building similar things.

Can I go ahead and start on my entry? Or do I have to wait and start on Oct. 1?

Count me in. Are there any prizes to be won? RBC for this first one. not at this Time If we can keep intrest and participation high this can become an on going challenge. I will provide prizes on occasion. If anyone would like to donate a prize to the challenge It would be gladly accepted. When prizes are offered all the builds that qualify will be put in to a thread with a poll, where the winner will be determined Via Pier Judging. All I ask is that you do NOT vote for you self Brick Ninja that is okay I only have about 7 fall colored leaves my self at this time. Thus it will make it more challenging for us Deresity, I would prefer you wait till the first, You will have 31 days to do your build. By all means start putting parts aside and make a game plan, but please try to refrain from building till the first Jordan, Thanks for covering the questions for me this morning I appreciate it. Pyro, yes you are correct. I wanted to start these challenges as a way for all of us to grow and learn from each other in a NON Combative manor, where a theme is set, and minimal boundaries in place so that weather your collection is small, or something like the Lego designers back play area. Everyone could participate and have fun:) I also want to do these so that we aren't stuck in a "will this build work for my character" position, and as a way to just let go and build.

If we aren't going to judge this first one and declare a winner with a prize, I don't see any reason why folks can't start a little early, but Curt is right, if a future round is competitive, then it would make sense to not allow early building.
