Thanks for your quick and clear feedback. Here are my motives for who to choose and who not:
Lenfald is in it's building style too close to my GoH (Eurobricks) Avalonian builds. I don't want to mix up builds too much. So no Lenfald for me. Garheim would suit me, because I like the viking styled buildings, but mountains aren't my strong point. So a maybe here. Loreos would be a good option, if it were not that I really lack cavalry. I enjoyed building in Kaliphlin with my Avalonian army. So a maybe here also. Outlaw is still unclear in some parts for me. Can I use magic a lot or is it limited. What are the limitations race-like. Can I use ghosts or other mythical creatures? If yes, they will have a strong preferance.
So still deciding, any comments on my point will be helpful.
Regards, Narb

So Outlaws can use magic, but it us forbidden in the other factions. Orcs and such like in Lord of the Rings are allowed. I'm actually not sure about ghosts. I would assume so. Outlaws can also have trolls, skeletons, so I assume ghosts as well. And for Loreos, the army is heavy cavalry, but still has infantry, so you don't have to have that many horses and stuff. If you need anything else, just ask. Happy to help!

Outlaws can use magic, but the magical field is weak on the mainland, so it limits their magical abilities significantly, outside of the magic isle. Non-human races do exit in Roawia, on a somewhat limited basis. Human society shuns them, however, so they must live in secluded enclaves in the wilderness, or travel abroad in disguise. Races that closely resemble humans, such as elves and dwarves, are probably able to function in society, though they'll always be eyed suspiciously. Also, when choosing a faction, consider picking one with a building style that's outside of your comfort zone. It's a great way to develop as a builder if you're forced to build stuff that you haven't done before

Hi, Just signed up and looking forward to joining in, I'm fresh out of a mini dark age so I will need to build up a bit of a collection first, any set recommendations for learning modern building techniques as before my mini dark age I was more of a Space/Exo-Force builder.

I'd suggest any of the bigger newer sets, really. Stuff in the 14+ age bracket usually has at minimum some SNOT techniques and often some interesting use of technic bits. Also, start looking for good builders on Flickr to follow. The online community is very innovative.

Yeah, the best thing I can suggest is watching other builders and just playing around with pieces , new techniques crop up all the time! Welcome to LoR too, hope you find the right faction (Outlaws of course ).

Thanks for the advice, I'm looking to join Lenfald or Outlaws. No offense to Lenfald, but they have a lot of active members. You don't have to, but I would suggest going to the Outlaws: your skills would be more useful there.

Interesting to know I'm not against joining any of the guilds, witch guild has the least amount of active members?

That's hard to tell, but it's either Outlaws or Loreesi.. the Loreesi have great builders which were recently active, but their busy with different things and few have built in some time.

Interesting to know I'm not against joining any of the guilds, witch guild has the least amount of active members? Either the Outlaws or Loreos (not positive which one). But you'd be welcome in any of the factions! A lot of people join their factions based on their parts collection. Lots of White, Dark Bluish Gray, and Brown would fit best in Garheim. While Lots of Greens and Browns would be best suited for Lenfald. Tans, Tans, and more Tans work best for Loreos. While probably mostly anything besides snow could work for outlaws. You don't have to pick your faction based on your parts, but having the parts to match your faction does make the game more enjoyable. Also, each faction has a pretty big jungle island so if you have the pieces for that you could build majorly for the island. (Which any faction would love.) But all in all welcome to LoR!

Interesting point about the jungle islands I will have to look into that. I will be pretty much starting from scratch so I will slowly build up my collection towards whatever faction I end up joining.

rbt I would recommend choosing the faction that most appeals to what you want to build, although there are no restrictions to building in other factions territory. For example; - If you are interested in Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern style architecture, Loreos would be a good choice - although Northern Loreos has a mixture of that style and the more Western European castle style. - If snowy landscapes and bearded Viking type warriors interest you, Garheim is the obvious choice - although Southern Garheim does have forests and Garheim does field traditional men-at-arms style armies. - If you're into deep forests and more Germanic/English style castles, Lenfald is known for these - again though, Northern Lenfald has Garheim characteristics, and Southern Lenfald has some Loreesi characteristics. - The Outlaws (or self styled Free peoples of Roawia!) probably have the most freedom. Here magic and non-human races are common. Building style is just about anything that takes your fancy. As mentioned all factions have access to tropical lands in the Great Western Isles if the jungle/tropics are what interests you. Check out the faction threads (the first page typically has examples of styles etc) and look through the flickr feeds of some of our members. Find the style that interests you most and pick that faction. Changing factions is very rare, although the King's Council will review requests on a case-by-case basis. Outlaws and Loreos are down to about 3-5 active builders, Lenfald and Garheim probably both have around 8-10. However, hopefully with autumn arriving in the northern hemisphere things may pick up a bit. It's a good time to join actually as we are almost ready to release a major story arc/new chapter similar in style to the Queen Galanir/Loreos-Lenfald War/Magic-Isle Purge story arcs, look for the first official 'teaser'/promotional poster this weekend! Another factor to consider (and I admit it heavily influenced my choice), are the faction's official colours. Garheim: Blue and Dark Blue Lenfald: Dark Green and Yellow Loreos: Red and Gold Outlaws: Black and any colour (see freedom!) Also if you have a favourite Lego sigil/coat-of-arms you wish to use, some of these are reserved to different factions - for instance I'm still really bummed that as a Lenfel I can't use the yellow black falcon shield, as the Black Falcons are reserved for Garheim. Personally I feel these rules should be relaxed, but for now they stand. If you have any more questions, keep them coming! We're all pretty friendly here and more than happy to help. Anyway a long post, but hopefully helpful! Enjoy your choice and I look forward to seeing your character introduction soon!

Thanks Ayrlego lots of food for thought, I think I will spend a few days reading through the global story, faction pages and looking at some builds before I choose my faction.

Ayrelego did a good job of laying things out. I'll toss in my 2 cents on Outlaws and Loreos needing some help, with the pendulum pointing toward Outlaws, who have never had a strong membership base, unlike the ebb and flow of the other factions. That said, you have to pick one you'll have fun with, so follow your gut!
