I'm old, so old. Too old to plough the fields. Too old to hammer iron. Too old to fight. So now I spend my days at Lion's Head in the company of the other servants of the king, recording his decisions. But I have a secret. In the twilight hours, when I should be asleep, I am keeping a history. There's lots more work to be done, but I want to write down the events of this great land for all future generations. I am in a privileged position to do this as I hear all the comings and goings around the palace. ++++++++++++++++++++++ Out of character: this is the thread I am going to use for testing the automation elements. I've got more work to do. ++++++++++++++++++++++ Posts summary: Player Cuahchic of faction Loreos built an economy building in Port Valiant. TEST POST PLEASE DO NOT DELETELoreos/Port Valiant/Economy/Unrestricted Port Valiant Market and Customs House
Port Valiant customs house is where traders apply for their licences and pay their taxes, and in front of which the weekly market is held. Here we see the hustle and bustle of a typical market day, with traders selling their wares under the watchful eye of the colonial authorities. See more pictures in the Merlin's beard thread, or in the Flickr album. The footprint is 32 x 64 studs, hence an unrestricted entry.

TEST POST PLEASE DO NOT DELETEThis was a build from the GC which I never posted here: Lenfald / Abnerburgh / Military / UnrestrictedAnd a new build for April: Lenfald / Abnerburgh / Agriculture / Restricted
Agriculture is extremely important to the survival of the new colony of Abnerburgh, so the new colonists have begun raising crops at once. Hogs are a crucial animal brought from the mainland, as they are well suited to life in the forest and can forage much of their food, while at the same time clearing the dense vegetation for future crops. Pineapples and other new crops are also grown in the tropical climate.

Hello all! I have finished version 1 of a possible automatic scoring system (fronted by our man Baldwin of Toberg). I'm going to leave it running every hour on the hour (GMT) for the next couple of days. Bear in mind this is still early days but a synopsis is below: What it doesMonitors this thread and this thread only. If a user posts a reply, it will attempt to find their global challenge entry in the format:Faction / City / Type / SizeIt's important that these are separated by a backslash and all on the same line. It doesn't matter if you put a space between them or not.If it finds a post with this in it, it will attempt to summarise this in the first post. It will try and find an image link after the global challenge entry and post a thumbnail of that too.How Could This Be Useful?Imagine if I rewrote the code so that instead of monitoring a single thread it monitored a specific sub-forum, e.g. Global Challenges. If a user posts in an agreed format (e.g. [Entry] in the thread title, four text items separated by backslashes in the body) then this tool could pick up new threads and automatically aggregate them in a master list. This could be run every hour (or whatever) and pick up new threads in near real time. If the types were agreed (e.g. vignette = 1 point, bignette = 2 points, unrestricted = 4 points) the tool could also keep track of scores per faction.
This would then free up faction leaders to write story updates and create interesting challenges rather than doing boring admin. Players would get near instant feedback on their MOC contributions and not feel left out. Known Limitations (To-Do)- Only monitors the first page of results, needs to be able to handle multiple pages.
- Every run it will edit the first post, needs to store posts it has found before and only edit first post when new posts arrive.
- If a user edits a post it will currently update the list, but this needs maintained in the "memory" version.
What You Can Try
Read the instructions above and have a look at the post structure already in this thread. Try posting a MOC and (optional) image and see the script update the master post (up to 1 hour delay). Give me some feedback as to what you think, whether it worked, etc. Later in the week I will revisit any issues.

Thanks for working on this, this is definitely the way forward if it can be made to work. Also nice fig and backstory, makes this newfangled technology much more LoR appropriate. Here's a test: Lenfald / Stoneborough / Military / RestrictedHouse Strong's seat of power is their citadel built on the rocky heights above the walled city of Stoneborough. The Strong Lords rule from their ancient wooden hall, said to have been built by Vyctor Strong himself. Now though it is surrounded by high stone walls and a second, modern keep has been constructed on the shelf above. Grand Duke Eberhard Strong has recently completed a building project to strengthen the walls of city and castle, making the mountain fastness nearly impregnable.

Thanks to Merc and Kingdomviewbricks for providing test entries, if we could get a couple more to push us onto a second page that would let me test multi-page functionality.
I don't have my work laptop home with me this weekend but will update the code through the week.

Great work Colin, here is another test entry: Loreos / Port Valiant / Military / Restricted 'Al Saqr' or 'the Falcon' Tower is an impressive structure build on one of the highest points of the new Loreesi colony of Port Valiant. From the top of the tower the sentries have a full view of the wide expanse of Sandy Bay, and can provide early warning of vessels approaching the port. The tower's construction was supervised by Loreesi explorer and pioneer Captain Alphoso de Rojas who can be seen inspecting the view from the top.

And a second test to help push to a second page: Loreos / Port Valiant / Agriculture / Bignette A terraced rice field near Port Valiant showing three levels. The top has been flooded and planted. The middle has been flooded and is in the process of being planted; and the bottom is being ploughed.

Thanks Ayrlego, it seems to be picking up and correctly displaying test entries. A few posts in-between have been correctly ignored. I hope you can now all see the potential of this, and once I get multi-page monitoring sorted then it's up to the KC to decide how this could be used. If anyone has any questions or wants further explanations please let me know.

Just to say I've turned off the bot now, so if you post after this message it won't be picked up.
It didn't seem like anyone else was going to post more so until we have a clear plan of what we want to achieve with automation there isn't much value is continuing to run it hourly.

You still need some more posts in order to test it on multiple pages, right?
