Part 1: A Dangerous Meeting, Part 1
“I’m sure everything’ll be fine, Micah,” Jorgin commented as Sir Micah Silver, along with his longtime friend Erik Varnes and his uncle Ragnor Silver, packing for their trip. Micah Silver and his companions were on their way to Stonecreek, half a day’s ride away. They were there to purchase supplies, tools and materials to help expand Micah’s castle, Silverstone Keep, as well as meeting a few more workers and carts to bring the supplies back. Also, since Stonecreek is an important Northern harbor and dockyard, they are there to check up on their investment of supplying Garheim’s newly brought-back navy, as a result of Jarl Eindrik and his council’s decision.
“I’m just worried about, y’know, everything. You know I can’t trust those paid architects to do things for me.” Sir Micah Silver replied as him retinue mounted their horses.
“I do trust you, y’know.”
“I know,” Jorgin commented as the trio mounted the horses, heading out the gate. “Don’t forgot those 2x4s!”
Half a day later, the trio arrived at Stonecreek. After unsaddling the horses, they strolled through the streets, admiring the town during market day. After ambling for an hour or so the trio split up to buy everything easier; Micah went to the docks to inquire about the navy, Ragnor walked the markets for foodstuffs, supplies, and tools, and Erik purchased materials from the various workshops around the city. Approximately two hours later, the trio met back together at the center or town, their prearranged meeting spot.
“Anything left to grab before we head back?” Ragnor asked, counting what they had.
“Just those 2x4s Jorgin asked for,” Erik replied with a sly grin.
“Well, let’s grab those,” Ragnor laughed. “Then we ca- “
“Shh, I heard something,” Micah cut him off. “I think it’s Matthew, talking to someone.” Mathew was one the four Forest Wardens stationed with Sir Micah Silver at Silverstone Keep. Sure enough, as they stopped and listened, Matthew was talking with someone else, a man with a gruff, unforgiving voice. It sounded angry. As they stealthily rounded the corner, Micah almost gasped with astonishment. There, talking to Matthew, was an Outlaw. The Outlaw no less, the one kicked out of the Garheim Royal Guard for ruthlessness and uncompassionate actions. His name was Viktor Krum, unmistakable by his armor and jagged, copper sword. Behind him were two Dragon knight guards. “Ragnor, creep around them and take out the guards. Erik, go around the block, wait for my signal, and charge Viktor. This could be our chance to take him down. I’ll take Matthew, and we can understand what’s going on.”
Minutes later, they were in position. Micah waited around 2 minutes until the conversation wrapped up and the four were relaxed to make his move. He held up 2 fingers, the signal for Erik, and seconds later, they heard two thuds as Ragnor took out the guards. As Viktor looked around surprised, Erik was there, knocking him out with the flat of his blade. Micah was there two seconds later, putting his sword to Matthew’s throat.
Part 2: A Dangerous Meeting, Part 2 “Why, Matthew? Why!” Micah shouted as Matthew struggled under his blade. “What do you have to gain from this?” Micah gestured to Viktor Krum, standing under the gaze of Ragnor, and his guards, the two now dead on the floor.
“You don’t understand.” Mathew replied with a sneer. “I was born in the Shade. As a young child, I was planted in Garheim at an orphanage. I was visited multiple times by a wizard, who instructed me to earn the leaders of Garheim’s trust. I fought in the war against Galainir, against my own kinsmen, forced to kill them. Later, I was told in a dream sent by a wizard, not long ago, to stir up an insurrection in the uneasy north of Garheim. That was when I joined the Forest Wardens, to get closer to you, and with my skill I was quickly accepted. I chose you because you were recently in the Great Western Isles, and you and your troops would still be recovering from it. I was chosen to move north, and have been quietly feeding whispers into your citizens’ heads since then. Then, this meeting was arranged for me about a week ago, with an unknown contact, to summarize my work so far. That was today. I met Viktor here, and then you two showed up.”
“But why?” Micah struggled to understand what Matthew was saying. “How does that impact your meeting, and your betrayal?”
“I was getting to that. Like I said, I was instructed to stir whispers, lies, into your citizens’ heads. We needed them to be wary of you, and not help you when we go to att-” Matthew cut off, realizing what he was about to say. “Surprisingly, we’ve had some people turn completely to our side, and lots questioning you. It was better than expected.”
“You mean you’re going to attack us? What do you gain from taking us down?” Micah asked, confused.
“We tried to do this 200 years ago, and it failed. We need to root out important northern leaders and warriors, in case we decide to attack, and so that the south doesn’t have support when fighting,” Matthew smirked. “The plan was created by Viktor Krum’s ancestors, and also involved yours.”
“I’ve had enough of this. Shut him up, and let’s get him back home,” Erik interrupted.
“Yeah, we’re too noticeable out here in the open,” Ragnor added.
“And what about Viktor?” Micah asked. Suddenly, sensing their hesitation, Viktor kneed Ragnor, turned, and fled through the alley. He ducked behind a barrel, and soon, all they could see was dust. “It’s too late to get him. When we get back, put the guard on high alert, and notify the regional leaders that Viktor Krum is loose.”
