I think the term you are going for is 'castle-punk'. I'm not sure if that's official but in tends to incorporate dwarve machinery or when fantasy slightly blends with sci-fi. Like the Lego Castle 'fantasy era' sets or perhaps things like Terry Pratchett books.
I'd advise not painting them! I think they could probably be a brick or too shorter (top to bottom, which would help the blocky shape, and perhaps try some smaller pieces and slopes like the cheese wedge/slope (1x1 slope) to help the shape a bit? It's certainly an interesting idea and nice start to build on.

I agree with Andhe's suggestions. I also would strongly advise you not to paint your bricks!! That's an idea that practically makes my skin crawl! Better to use the bricks you have to build prototypes, and just save up for bricks in the color you want.

Although not a purist by any means I agree with AK and Andhe regarding paint - don't do it!! It rarely looks good IMO - but it's completely up to you! Regarding the squareness, have you considered using curved slope pieces in a SNOT type arrangement? Something like this below: I think that would soften the hard angles, although for the genre I don't think your 'square' tanks look too bad!

I've based these tanks kinda off of the warhammer steam tanks I think the square look does give it an earlier look kinda like the first real tanks invented

I like the short one better though I'd use the other flag for it.
