Greetings and Salutations, Merlin's Bearders! (Beardites? Beardouins?)It's finally SUMMER, and things are HEATING UP here on the best LEGO Castle Forum there is! (nope, no bias here...) To kick off the season, I thought it would be fun to host a little contest. Rules: Build a bignette (max 16x16, minimal overhang allowed - judge's discretion) that shows your MB avatar / sig-fig enjoying summer. This could be just about anything summer-related, though it should be medieval / castle / fantasy-themed in some way or another (though creative twists to this rule are encouraged!). To encourage participation, I'll allow TWO entries per person!
Entries MUST be posted to this thread! Deadline: July 27th (Why this date? Because it's my birthday, and I say so) Judging: To be done primarily by myself, possibly with help from other MB admins (I haven't discussed this with them yet). Prize: See below Feel free to ask questions in this thread. All entries should have "www.merlins-beard.com" digitally added off in one corner (yes, this contest is doubling as a recruitment drive, haha) Ready, set, BUILD!

RESERVED FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS / WINNERS / PRIZE DETAILS / ETC.Grand Prize: Pick Three of the prizes shown above Runner Up: Pick One of the prizes shown above, minus those selected by grand prize winner. OK, everyone, time to announce the winners!First of all, thanks to everyone who entered! I had a tough time choosing my favorites, and I hope everyone had fun building for this one. While choosing the winners, I tried to keep the theme of the contest in the forefront, which was "enjoying summer." I took a pretty literal interpretation of this, and looked for entries that showed relaxation or partaking in something that people typically find to be a fun traditional summer activity. With that said, the winners are: 2nd place - Jungle Relaxation by kingdomviewbricks
LoR - Jungle Relaxation by kingdomviewbricks, on Flickr
I could totally envision myself in a warm locale, swinging in a hammock with a cold drink in-hand! Nicely done with the weaving job! 1st place - Trying to Catch the Big One by Graham Gidman

The landscaping in this one was well done, and it appealed to my inner Garhim with the fishing subject material, haha. I actually went fishing this weekend up in the mountains, and it is one of my favorite summer activities. Oh.... and because there were so many great entries, we are also going to have a bonus winner for funniest scene! Funniest Scene - AFOL's Will Understand by thedonald13AFOL's will understand ... by THEDONALD13, on Flickr This is soooooo me right now. With BrickCon coming up, I've got my mind on my bricks, and my bricks on my mind, to paraphrase a Snoop Dogg song. Runner up: Painting the Living Room by dzidek1983 - Very funny as well! Thanks to everyone for entering! Winners, please post your prize selections here, in order: Graham (pick 3), Kingdomview (pick 1 of remaining), Donald (pick 1 of remaining), and then PM me your addresses please. Have a great summer, MB'ers!

What if our sig-fig isn't a Castle-related?

Or change your sig-fig ;-)
Haven't checked but is it allowed to crossover with the 'Summer Joust' contest? Don't know if there is any potential for crossover with their categories eg bignette.

andhe, I'm not going to police whether or not it is being entered elsewhere. As long as it is a new build that fits the above criteria, it will be considered during judging

So, after a year of inactivity, I'd like to participate. Looks like a nice challenge.

sorry for double post, but should the entry be posted here or in another thread? Good question. Entries must be posted in this thread. My first entry (real life based) Nice entry! Everyone should feel free to add a short write-up describing the scene, if you wish.

An entry from me! I'll take the opportunity to revamp my LoR character as well! On a hot summers day Davos of Ambarvale relaxes by a cool stream in one of Lenfalds vast forests. After returning from the Great Western Isles he is glad to be back in the beautiful forests of his homeland and takes this opportunity away from his travelling companions to take in the sights, sounds and smells of the forest and take a cool and refreshing drink from the small stream.
Of course Davos is not his real name, his parents actually named him Deorwine - a name from the old language of Lenfald that means Dear (Deor) Friend (Wine). However during the war against the evil queen Galinar, Deorwine found himself fighting in a Loreesi company. His Loreesi comrades found the old-Lenfel name a little difficult on the tongue and shorted it to the more Loreesi sounding 'Davos'. Of course this name kind of just stuck. Now however, with Lenfald's independence from Roawia and the renewed animosity between Lenfald and Loreos, Davos finds himself being referred to as Deorwine again more and more. He doesn't really mind - unlike most of his countrymen he has a respect and liking for the Loreesi formed in comradeship and conflict.
