GC XII – Exploration – Lenfald Bignette When Horse Sees Llama on Flickr Llama wool turned out to be a marvelous fiber. The weavers loved how soft it was; not greasy like sheep's wool. Caelyan Nagatomi was fascinated by the descriptions sent by the adventurers of the land, vegetation, and animals. The highly detailed letter Ranulf sent concerning the llamas was also intriguing. So Caelyan decided that it was high time she did some traveling.
The raw wool would take months to clean, card, spin, and weave. Until all that was finished there was nothing that Caelyan could do but wait. Her own business was running smoothly and there was no reason that she had to be there supervising her excellent seamstresses. Her assistant Mayke Leenders was perfectly capable of running the shop for a few months. With a clean conscience and a burning curiosity Caelyan set sail for New Lenfald. The voyage was uneventful, culminating with the bustling docks of Port Emerald. Ranulf met her on the edge of town with one of his llamas. Caelyan was delighted to discover that he had already trained two and that they followed him without a lead rope and willingly carried brightly colored packs. Ranulf had already loaded all the provisions he had bought and all that remained to do before they could leave town was to load her clothes.
Before long they were on their way with the llamas following with their supplies. Half way to the valley, called Sweet Repose by Ranulf, they were on a narrow trail on the side of a mountain with a river racing below them when they met a horseman. His horse took one look at the llamas and panicked. The horse was rearing and snorting while the llamas looked at it calmly. Caelyan was confused, the rider was terrified, and Ranulf just smiled. After several minutes the horse calmed down enough for the rider to get down and try to sooth his horse. “I saw how horses reacted to my llamas the first time I went to Port Emerald,” Ranulf explained to Caelyan. “After they turned the market upside down I always left them outside town and had the merchants send handcarts with supplies to me. That causes fewer problems and the constables appreciate it if we avoid causing problems.” It took half an hour to get the terrified, but slightly calmer horse past the two llamas on the narrow trail. Then the rider mounted and let his horse put some distance between itself and the strange wooly creatures that had just tormented it.
The rest of the journey to Sweet Repose was wonderfully boring except for the scenery.

GCXII Economy - Bignette - GarheimWhen we last left Gunnarr he was at Tolworth tower dumbfounded with his new assignment as a dragon slayer. to his Chagrin this was merely a prank by the lite hearted Baron whos true task for Gunnarr called for him to travel to the port city of Jahrton to check on the well being of the Barons nephews. Gunnarrs experience as a mercenary has taught him many things. one of those being that exploration brings with it the chance for merchants to expand the economy with new commodities and that gangsters and thieves will resort to extortion in order to exploit those commodities for a quick buck. there is always money to be made keeping the peace. Gunnarr reached the city just before dusk the smell of salt air and fish steered him toward the harbor. As he rounded the corner of the merchants shop he was met by a mountain of a man carrying a large mace. "Can I help you stranger?" the man croaked. "Only if you're familiar with the Jotunn twins." replied Gunnarr. the large mans face scrunched "who wants to know?" grumbled the man. "Yes who indeed" came a voice behind the first as a second giant stepped into the open hefting a menacing looking mace of his own. Gunnarr stood his ground replying "your uncle sent me." Their faces softened "well why didn't you say so? I'm Farbjoor and this is my brother Bani. come in, come in." The brothers grabbed Gunnarr a pint at the counter to refresh their new comrade. they spoke for a while about the comings and goings of the harbor and the illegal activities perpetrated on some of the other merchants in the area. The brothers said that they hadn't had any significant issues with the local underworld save for some surveillance looking for any weaknesses in their security. Gunnarr chuckled "haha judging by the size of you two its no wonder." the brothers joined in on the laugh. Gunnarr decided to look around the merchants shop assessing any possible gaps the twins had overlooked in their security measures as well as perusing the merchants goods. when he was satisfied that all was well he headed downstairs. grabbing an enchanting new fruit they call it a "Buh Na Nuh" crazy right? He thanked the men and asked them if there was anything they would like relayed to their uncle. "Give him our regards." the men thundered in unison. As he left Gunnarr told the men he would be in town for a few days before heading back in case there was anything else they needed as he headed out into the night towards the inn. GCXII - Exploration - BignetteAfter securing his room at the Inn Gunnarr went downstairs to the tavern for dinner. During his meal He overheard some of the locals discussing stories of the western isles. Usually Gunnarr wouldn't pay any mind to exotic stories told second third or more hand by people who have never been further than the borders of their towns but, this particular storyteller intrigued him. His detailed description painted a very vivid picture of the land so far away. Exotic plants, humid climates, smells and sounds creatures too fantastic for most to imagine. All in bold colorful detail. Gunnarrs imagination started to run wild. Picturing a scene so lively its was almost as if he had been transferred to the isle by a powerful wizards spell. He felt as though he could reach down and feel the lush forest floor. he could smell the fragrant flowers and hear the fluttering of the butterflies. A grin crept across his face as he imagined the frolicking of the unusual creatures the story teller described as half man and half goat. And of course his mind wandered to this new delectable fruit. Gunnarr finished his drink and headed up to his room. "I'll have to get some more of those tasty Bananas in the morning." he mumbled to himself. GCXII Exploration Bignette by Anthony Ochoa, on Flickr

Players, once more, according to the Global Storyline:
Garheim and Loreos have not reached the Great Western Isles yet.
This is no secret, and has been a major plot point for about 6 months now.
We in the KC realize that a lot of builders want to get there, and all 4 factions will eventually make it, but GC's have an impact on the storyline, and the bottom line is that Loreos and Garheim had some challenges from GC XI so they didn't get there. Since both these factions are doing very well this time around, I have no doubt that you guys will do better for the results from this GC... But these builds of late violate the storyline and are essentially building "in the future" and technically they shouldn't count for this GC. Only Lenfald and Outlaws have the ability to "explore the new lands". We in the KC don't want to punish builders for building, so they will count in spite of their timelines being completely out of sync with the Global Storyline, but enough is enough. Come up with exploration on the mainland; not every rock has been turned over there, especially in mountainous and hard to reach regions of Roawia.

And btw, if the story fits more with extortion just say so .

Putting together the perfect crew for their expedition led Lord Stout all throughout Roawia. From the frigid North of Garheim to the Southern swamps of the Outlaw territories, they searched far and wide for the most talented individuals who would help establish the Loreesi foothold in the New Lands. Most of said recruits were willing and eager for the right amount of gold. Some held fast to their principals and only when confronted by Lord Stout's associates were willing to see the opportunity in the new venture. Global Challenge XII - Bignette - Extortion - Loreos Global Challenge XII - Bignette - Extortion - Loreos by THEDONALD13, on Flickr One such Outlaw, famed cartographer, the All Seeing Jasper, gained his reputation for the depiction of the Outlaw Isle, a standard seen on current Roawian maps. Jasper resisted Lord Stout's advances, until one night he found himself face to face with the Loreesi Lord while dangling above a watery grave. It wasn't until then that he realized the folly of his insubordination. An accord was reached and newly appointed regent of New Stowburn, Jasper returned home and bid farewell to his old life. Global Challenge XII - Restricted - Economy - Loreos 330-med by THEDONALD13, on Flickr The ports were always a busy place, but they have been at maximum capacity for several months. Lenfaldian & Outlaw merchants streamed in with their new goods. The influx of goods meant ample coin to be made, either by lending or through the many Stout escrow houses throughout Roawia. Banks & warehouses in Garheim's Grahnhaven, Skraborg, Rothburg, Outlaw cities of Helitrope, Shade, Dingewood, Lenfald's Crakenhaven, Bladefald, and even in Lion's Head all had been set up in the years prior, but now basked in the new wealth. --- On this day Lord Stout was expecting some very important visitors. Hired crew that would be essential on the quest for new lands: Lenfaldian carpenters and shipwrights, Garhiem masons and smiths, and even couple of renowned Outlaw cartographers. All "recruited" and persuaded away from their homes to make the journey Westward with Lord Stout's assembled fleet. Global Challenge XII - Unrestricted - Exploration - Loreos Global Challenge XII - Unrestricted - Exploration - Loreos by THEDONALD13, on Flickr Global Challenge XII - Unrestricted - Exploration - Loreos by THEDONALD13, on Flickr Three months of meticulously piecing together the people and materials, Lord Stout was ready to launch his formal expedition to the new lands. Men and woman from across Roawia were conscripted to join the endeavour and were awaiting the final loading of the cavernous holds aboard the Prosecutor. Loreos's pride of the Eastern fleet, the Prosecutor would lead the trek. First heading South to Salus to join the twin corvettes, the Gavel & the Hangman and then around the cape to Dalmanutha to join the Judge and Jury. ----- Lord Stout looked down to men below, and with a tremble in voice he began his address. "Brave souls, you are to embark on a journey that will no doubt keep some of you from seeing your homes again. Danger is bountiful where the eye does not see. I speak with a heavy heart knowing that I send you to an unknown where I will not be joining you. Adventure is a young man's sport and I am well past my prime." A low grumble arose from the crowd as a sly smile widened across Lord Stout's face. "But, I would not leave you to sea without a rudder! Lord Stout called his eldest son, Gerrick to the balcony and announced him as his proxy. "

Crystal Cavern - Bignette - Exploration Drakk had spent months searching through books in search of ways to expand his ever growing thirst for power. It was only recently that he stumbled across a handwritten note in a tome on chemical properties detailing the creation of a potion capable of unlocking “hidden potential.” The results were vague, but the ingredients were clear. The majority of the reagents were easily obtainable given Drakk’s ever growing treasure horde, but one item would prove to be elusive. The formulae called for a glowing chartreuse crystal, rare and found only in the deserts of loreos. It only took Drakk a moment to decide to venture for the crystal himself after being in the cramped library of the monastery for so long. After completing a scrying spell to locate the nearest source of crystal, Drakk ventured to Loreos with a handful of his warriors. It wasn’t long before he stood at the very place his spell had guided him, an unsuspecting rock formation in an oasis deep in sandy desert. He and his men searched everywhere, but to no avail. The sun, sand, and frustration was more than enough for the sorcerer to lose his temper. “Blast this Loressi wasteland!” He yelled as he conjured a fireball and threw it into the ground. As the smoke cleared, a small opening appeared in the rock. An underground cavern! “Quickly, give me your rope,” Drakk ordered to the nearest warrior monk. Grasping the secured line, he climbed through the hole into the cavern. The walls were covered in the glowing crystals, filling the cave with soft light. Still, the bottom could not be seen. Drakk reached for the nearest shard and ripped it free from the outcrop with his taloned hand. Back on the surface, Drakk admired the crystal. Turning it over in his hands he felt its dormant magical properties trapped within. He couldn’t wait to bring it back to his lab… ------------------------------ Concealing Flames - Restricted - Exploration After securing the crystal for his experiment, Drakk was headed back south to the Badlands to complete his experiment. As they crossed the dunes of the Loressi desert, he spotted a lone tower jutting from the sand like an island. As the small band approached, it became apparent that the tower was had been deserted for some time. Deciding to investigate, Drakk led his warriors inside. The interior was a large chamber, and as soon as they entered a large fireplace flared to life, lighting the hall. A large throne sat opposite the men and decorated swords flanked the fireplace. Fierce looking stone statues stood vigilant over the chamber, seeming to be ready to swoop down on any intruders.. As the flames danced in the fireplace, Drakk was drawn to them. He could sense magic emanating from the fire--no, from behind it! He walked into the blaze, his dragon blood protecting him from the heat. A low rumble sounded as the stone of the fireplace shifted to reveal a passage. The hidden chamber glowed in the light of crystals reflecting the firelight. Yet another pair of statues guarded the chamber, but these were much older and carved from obsidian. Ancient writings were etched into the wall, their meaning lost on Drakk. But what really drew Drakks eye, was the pedestal in the middle of the room. Upon it lay a simple blue lamp, but the magic the emanated from the object made the sorcerer’s eyes gleam with greed. Who knew that loreos had such wondrous history… -------------------------------------------------------------- Ocean Ambush - Unrestricted - Extortion Upon returning to the Badlands, Drakk received news about the current success of the Outlaw “navy” in raiding the merchant vessels of the other lands. Despite the good news, and the prosperous journey to Loreos, the Sorcerer fell into a sour mood. “I could do that…” Drakk muttered to himself. With a sharp nod, he made a flippant decision to go on a naval raid. As he began gathering his warriors, a gray robed monk approached him and whispered in his ear. “Sir, all of our ships are on loan to the Baron as per your orders.” The warrior spoke with a bowed head. Drakk took a moment before responding with grimace. “No matter, I will use my allies of the oceans!” At that he strode to the balcony and took wing. ...... The Garheim ship was loaded down with goods recently acquired at the Lenfald port. Bristling with exotic riches, the crew was in good spirits. The sailors singing the shanty all stopped when the ship suddenly jerked to a halt. As on of the Garheim leaned over the edge to identify the cause, a red tentacle shot from the water and lifted him off the bow. A geyser of water announced the emergence of a massive chitinous head with red and black spines within feet of the ship. As the men on the vessel took their stations, more figures emerged from the depths ready to strike. The garheims looked to one another and all raised their hands in surrender. It was a moment later that Drakk flew into view of the captain stating his demands. The captain swore in frustration, but luckily for him it was drowned out over the crunch of the armor of one sailor as the great beast enjoyed his payment/meal. Drakk’s chest swelled with pride at the ambush. Drakk took the opportunity to gloat to no one in particular, “Eat your heart out Ivanovich…” -------------------- This is my first time entering all three categories, so I am a little proud of myself. Go Outlaws! -Drakk
