I really am sad that lego does not make an official version of the Nasal helm, the one used by the Normans, and my puristyness means I don't want to buy one from 3rd party. However, just in this one case, my specific flavor of puristyness does mean I'm perfectly happy to modify the current neck protector helm to make my own. I'm happy with the way this turned out, I think Ill make more in the future.

Not to shabby for a first time custom, it just needs horns! although I cant believe you butchered a LEGO castle piece! I don't think I could ever cut up my LEGO! Sir Valiant~

Sir Valiant~ Actually, the reason I like is that it doesn't have horns, that means it's much more historically accurate! There is an official piece like this, just it's intended to have horns in it so it has these big holes in the side. Horn helmets were never used it history, an I prefer this version. Yeah, I never cut or paint or stuff like that except this once, because I wanted to see how it looked and I really wanted this style of helmet.

It looks good from the front, but a little sanding down may be needed on the cut piece. I could never do that to my LEGO!

I know, until recently I never could've either, but then I saw a MOC with one of these in it that was really inspirational, so I just thought, why not? I actually did sand it a bit, I think after I took the picture. This is probably the only part I will ever butcher, though. Besides that I'm too purist.

Purism is good, but I don't mind BrickArms/BrickForge products, as longs as they're only there to complement the actual LEGO.

I guess the reason I did this is I just will not do Brickforge/Brickarms/Brickwarriors. For me, having to cut Lego isnt good, but it's a better a alternative than 3rd party, because technically it is still Lego. Just my thoughts and reasoning.

I think the helmets from the Viking theme were nasal helms. But the 'butchered' helmet does look nice, though I would never do it to my own pieces.

True, but a: mine of those are back with my collection in the US, and b: they have unsightly big holes in the side where horns are supposed to go. Hornless helm look much better IMO as well as being more historically accurate.

As the other said, I would hardly do this to my LEGo. But the result is very good. I looks like a realistic helm. Great job!
